its got H & R springs on it... they look like they were heated up when its sittin on the ground but they look normal when up on a jack... not sure what melted springs look like... never been that stupid... hopefully they are just regular unmolested lowering springs... the interior needs some help... broken tilt column cover, broken glovebox button/lock... key works in the ignition only, not in the doors or trunk, and the trunk doesnt open cause it was master key locked and the valet or replacement ignition key doesnt unlock the doors or trunk... got it from a used car lot that had it on craigslist... looks like a its a young kids repo... kinda like my old honda, but i actually had coil overs, and not as ghetto rigged short ram intake as this jetta... they just put a filter on the end of the stock intake tube on atleast the correct side of the MAF sensor... there are some things that need to be fixed or replaced... but overall could be a good investment in a cheap car that blue books for like 4 times what i paid for it...

***UPDATE****

i have gotten the oil cooler installed, new oil filter, no more leaking of any kind, full on fluids, the jetta runs and idles great. drove it around the block... definitely needs the front engine bracket, wont be driving it again until i get that replaced... motor thumps a little bit when you start off, but i think that has to do with the broken motor mount bracket... there is a little work that needs to be done to correct some headlight/foglight wiring... it also might need a clutch... will be able to tell more what else it will need after i get that bracket replaced...

i hope you have better luck with vw then i did. i had a 97 jetta just like that. put all kinds of money into it when i got it, and it still turned out to be the biggest pos ive ever owned! then i bought a bmw and theres no turning back! if you want German engineering get a bmw!

if that vw isnt leaking oil then you better check the dipstick because there isnt any oil in it. lol i love a good vdub. Das Auto.

for the lowering coils the collapsed when a load is on them is normal. that makes it a progressive rate spring giving it a better ride when lowered. A heated coil stays flat when the weight is off them.

cool on the coil info. it doesnt seem to be leaking anymore after the new filter and cooler went on... had to get the coolant level completely filled back up... it runs pretty good... took it for a decent drive today... seems to have a broken passenger side upper strut mount. that will need replacing but the local store has to have the part shipped in from cali... will order it after i get back from working in seattle over the weekend. was thinking of removing the deck out of the mazda so i could have some music while i drive the new daily... but i want to get my key issue dealt with...
