I used a manual rack from a Fox bodied Mustang for my truck. I haven't read all of this, but for a V8 the angle of the steering shaft sticking out of the rack needs to be about 45 deg or better, or nasty bind will occur.

You can find steering u-joints from Speedway Motors if you need any.

I actually found a perfect rack for the mazda. Its out of a 84 toyota corolla. And thanks mtrain..ill be hittin up that site for lil u joints for sure

That Pinto rack might work fine if your going to use the stock Mazda 4 cyl.

So whats the update on the engine? i didnt notice in your thread if you said anything about fitment of the sr. Im lookin to do the same thing. Have you got to the wiring part yet?

as far as the truck goes she has been under the knife again. i cut my tubs out again lol. and ive got the rack and pinion all mounted in and damn near ready to roll. i just need a new ujoint or something to connect the rack to the steering linkage. ive also cut my front xmember out so fit the intercooler and new radiator up there. im trying to get alot done for WCN this year. i hope it all goes according to plan

ill throw some up one day haha. but i got one bag bracket gussets burnt in. had to redo them cuz i messed up lol. but im moving along. the next big thing to tackle to sheetmetal the bed. honestly im a lil intemidated by that haha
