Tweaker - I hope you find the info that you have requested. If in fact a Taurus 3.0 L "Vulcan" V6 would bolt right up to a B2200 transmission I would be very interested in making the swap. I would not mind building new motor mounts especially if it meant keeping the stock trans, driveshaft, etc. Good luck and if I learn any new info i will add to this post.

Immortal - Good point on the tranny, with the 4.3, you would have to go with the GM trans and get the drive shaft modified to bolt up. I will talk to my boy and see what was involved in his swap and see of he has any suggestions or issues he ran into.

WRT da tranny, I would be careful how much power you dump through a Mazda tranny anyway. (my 2 cents) Maybe a stock 150hp motor but anything more than that would make me nervous about gettin on it hard. (and I drive hard) If you ever had a tranny blow up underneath you... its freakin scarry!

Sorry all, I am a GM guy all the way if you havent noticed!

Well, today I got to the Ford dealer too late in the day to talk to their resident linetech/motorhead.

But I did get a name and a contact to call on Monday.

This weekend promises good weather, so I am going to be in the partsyard (auto goldmine) hunting research.

Specifically, I am hoping to see if a crankshaft tailshaft is visible to see the number of boltholes and hole diameter.

The layout geometry of the engine to motormounts.

Locations of possible interference.

Rear of engine as to transmission mounting holes and bolt size.

Airbox routing and such.

Sincee to my knowledge this swap has not been done. . . there is no evidence that it cannot be done.

Easily.

And I thought about the SHO engine some more. That unit is 220 horsepower WITHOUT a turbo.

If this thing works. . .it will give new meaning to the phrase. . .have you driven a Ford lately?

The hardest part of this tomorrow plan is going to be remembering to bring a tape measure, pen, and paper.

The yard doesn't allow cameras. . .

You finally learn how to post pics and the "gold mine" won't let you take them -
Now that is just wrong.

as i recall, the subframe (cradle) was different in the v6 probe to the 4 banger probe, i had a topaz with a vulcan motor it had power, but i dont think it fits, i thought about that swap too, and i remembered the probes had that motor cuz a friend had one.
if it does fit, the trasmission would have to come from a aerostar of a ranger,
personally it seems to be alot of work for what its worth, your better off pulling it all out from a ranger anddroping it in, the intake would be the right one, and so on
if you try to do it, all the power to you, and hope it works out

I think you probably hit this one. . .I saw three Probe's this weekend, 2 had the V-6. . .and while I think the thing might fit. . .it would first of all look really uglee.

I think the thermostat housing might hit the firewall, because it would exit off the back of the motor. Another workaround that I wouldn't be interested in getting involved with.

Motormounts are located near the front of the motor, instead of near the middle like on the 2.0 / 2.2. . .

it occurred to me that like you said. . .a B3000 is the V-6

If you want an easy swap why not just go with a first generation MPV v6? it fits pretty easily and the motor is already set up for a rear wheel drive car. you dont have to worry about trying to flip it and make it work. if you want more horsepower than that you can put a 929 motor in your truck which is the same block it just has more horsepower. i think this would be easier than the probe motor.

This is a good thread! I have been working on researching engine swaps for the Mazda. Mine has a hole in the block and I will need a replacement. I am more than a year out on doing mine, due to funds and other projects. I have looked at doing the 4.3 v6 or the MVP, something that is inexpensive and drops came be a bonus! That why I was looking at all the Kia info. If I find anything good, I will post it here! It would be nice to have a collection of data.
