why would anybody put the 2.2 head on a 2.0? seems to boggle the mind usually it's the other way around

The B2000 head & the B2200 head are virtually the same head! The only difference is the "Front Housing" or the "Distributor Housing" that bolts to the front of the head so the dist. can be mounted.

You will need to look for a B2000 that still has it's head & valvetrain installed and grab all of the valvetrain off of it........there will be ten 12mm bolts that hold the cam caps down onto the head, as well as 1 or 2 bolts behind the cam timing gear that bolt the front housing into the front cam cap.

Because of this, when I look for a mechanical rocker arm setup in the junkyards and find one, I take the whole head! That way, I can put my swapped out hydraulic rocker setup back on that JY head after doing the swap, and I have a complete head that I can use on a different motor, or sell the whole head to a person that needs one, or even trade it in as a core if I'm buying a new head, if the JY head is warped.

Now, when you do the swap, you want to keep the 5 camshaft caps that you'll be removing to do this swap, with the head they came on originally!!

The cam caps are machined for the camshaft to fit into the head after they are bolted to the head (when Mazda built the head) during the machining process, so you WANT to keep the caps where they belong........you can even mark them 1,2,3,4,and 5 from front to back so you get them in their correct location while doing the swap.

The only parts you need to swap are the rocker arms, the rocker arm shafts, and the spacing springs that are in between the rocker arms and the cam caps........I always use the B2000 camshaft as well........it is designed (the cam lobes are shaped slightly different on hyd. vs mech.) to work with mech. rocker arms, and the B2200 cam is designed to work with hyd. rockers.........you can still have a slight tick when using the B2200 cam with mech. rockers because of the different shaped cam lobe "ramps".

After doing the swap, you'll need to set the valve lash (look in the Haynes or the factory service manual for the valve lash adjustment for the B2000) and the books will tell you to set the lash at .012", but set it at .009" and you'll have a very quiet valvetrain! You can set them at .009" cold also and it will be fine.
