Smoking post oil change... BAD!

Okay so I did my scheduled oil change yesterday and ever since my truck smokes more than usual. I know that it's gonna smoke until I rebuild it but it want smoking this bad. It does clear up but it takes a few min. And I thought maybe it was a one time occurrence but I started it two other times and for the first 2-5 min it poured out blueish grey smoke. It honestly looks like a blown head gasket type exhaust but it hasn't been warm lately and there wasn't and isn't any coolant in the oil. I know this sounds nieve but will this "go away"? I mean I know it's gonna smoke some but will it lessen over time and go back to the way it was before? Or am I stuck dealing with a huge cloud of smoke every morning?

Did you overfill the oil?

Same brand/weight of oil?

Your used oil most likely had its smaller, more volatile components burned off in the course of the past few thousand miles. Your fresh oil still contains those. Those are the components more likely to get vaporized and into the combustion chamber first. Of course, your engine now has a few thousand more miles of wear too. Things may get a little better, but likely not much.

I have no idea what the last oil weight and brand of the oil. Could it be too thin of oil? I'm pretty sure I got 5w30 in it now I'll have to dig through the trash to find the oil container... The wife bought it for me and it was the high milage oil... Did I mess up? And what weight would you guys recommend? Also if it isn't the exact weight it should be can it cause harm to my engine? Should I just drain and get new?

Okay guys I figured out where I went wrong(at least when it comes to the oil weight...) I told my wife to pick up 10 qts of 5w30 for both our vehicles. Well she picked up 5w30 for hers and just assumed that the one behind it was the same and I also assumed it was bug it's 15w40!
So my question is can I safely run this oil? I mean the temps here are not cold anymore it's getting warmer and warmer... So the added thickness shouldn't cause dry starts.

Don't worry about it, same exact thing happened to me when I changed my oil (with the high millage stuff to) smoked like crazy for a while but went away eventually. " target="_blank

Okay man thank you! I'm not an environmentalist but um starting to feel bad for the environment when I fill a parking lot full of smoke!

Lmao it is pretty funny how much it smokes sometimes lol. If it doesn't stop or lessen soon then look for a problem but right now I wouldn't be worried.

And I read your thread and I feel like I may have a slight increase in power as well...

when my rings and valve seals were bad I couldn't hardly use 10w 30. I burnt too much. you might smoke more but u wont burn it as fast. atleast I didn't. I cant use 5w30 either, just too thin for my liking. oh and thicker oil will give u more compression, good compensation if u have fried rings, mine were toast and my truck would cover my lawn in smoke. id run higher weight and it still smoked but I didn't burn it as fast.
