Would an 79 work

Thanks for the heads up Dan. I found one in a local yard today out of a 84. It was perfect on the left side of the box and had a couple of missing prongs on the right, but pretty sure I can make it work.

Got the junk yard fuse block installed this morning. Most of the right side was trash, so I bought a small fuse box and re-routed the whole right side. A little solder. a little liquid rubber, and some electrical tape and I now have two fuse boxes:

After correcting the electrical issues, i checked fuel pressure. It was running between 4 1/2-5#, so I installed a regulator and got pressure down to a steady 2 1/2#. I then adjusted timing and air/idle. After all this I took it out on the interstate and drove it for about 40 minutes(20 minutes one direction, turn around, 20 minutes back) at a steady 70MPH and had no problems like before so hopefully this stage is behind me. If no problems going back and forth this week, I will be posting another thread this weekend about what I can and can't get rid of now that I have the weber.......

Should go ahead and do the other side the same way. Then all of your fuses will be modern ATC fuses and easy to find if you need one.

Nice work!

I would do the other side too AND use :en-us&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&startIndex=&startPage=1. It will help protect your work and system plus make them look like fresh from the factory!

Thanks again H2 and Dan. I wasn't 100% sure the second fuse box would work, and I didn't want to second guess if replacing the ign side of the fuse box didn't correct my problem. Definitely am planning on doing the full conversion, but, unfortunately my problem does not seem to be fixed and I am starting to get more than a little frustrated. As posted, it ran great on the test drive Tuesday. I filled up Tuesday evening, drove to and from work yesterday cruising the interstate running 65-70 with no problems. Drove to work this morning again with no problems until about 3/4ths the way there and it started again, but somewhat mildly compared to what it was doing. Ironically, the temp gauge quit working about this same time(even yesterday it seemed to work then not work but noticed no difference in how it was running) I thought maybe somehow the temp gauge was causing some kind of short, so I unplugged it tonight for the trip home just to see what would happen. It didn't make any difference as I had the same problems and they got progressively worse. I was getting close to 1/2 tank of gas according to the gauge, so I decided to go ahead and fill up just to see if gas volume in the tank would make a difference. It didn't. This is actually the one bright spot as I drove 195 miles only using 6 gallons(32.5MPG), which makes me wonder if the odometer is correct but not concerned with that at the moment. I stopped again just to take a look see under the hood, found nothing, and the fuel pressure was still reading between 2 1/2-3#. Figured I would check to see if any vac on vacuum advance line so disconnected it from the distributor and gradually revved it up while holding my finger over the hose. I had vacuum but I notice that as I revved the engine, the fuel pressure gauge gradually decreased to 1# or less? After doing this I started out again and at one point was doing 50MPH floored. Then it just suddenly stops studdering and runs fine for a while then starts all over again off and on the rest of the way home. Besides not being able to figure out what is going on I can't understand why it comes and go even for as much as a day/days without any problems. Any thoughts/clues anyone?
Thanks
Chuck

fuel filter????

Changed it. One of the things that has me stumped is that it idles fine, even tonight when it was running like junk, it idled fine when I pulled over. Also did not seem to have any problems when I was revving it while checking for vacuum.

Just a morning update: Drove it to work this morning, keeping speed at a steady 60MPH. It did its thing, but didn't start doing it until a good 25-30 miles into my trip, and not as severe as it has been doing. Hate to keep mentioning the temp gauge, but it mostly did not work the entire trip. Needle started to come up a couple of times but then settled back down into the normal position when everything is turned off. I mentioned in an earlier post that I was going to cut off the cat last week, but did not get to that. Also, I have sprayed WD49 around the carb base and any/all vac ports and do not seem to have a vac leak, at least at idle.......
Thanks
Chuck

It doesn't sound like a fuel delivery issue to me.
With the temp gauge part of the equation, I'd check your engine and chassis grounds are sound.
If they check okay, I'd start looking at the ignition system. Pull plugs and check condition, ohm check coil, dist cap & rotor.
I'm not sure if the ignition switches were a problem on that truck, but have you tried quickly turning the key off, and then back on, when the problem occurs?
