Hey guys. I have a strange issue. If my truck sits for 2 days the battery dies.

Battery is 1 month old and the alternator is good. Any ideas what I should check

Thanks in advance

You have something that is constantly pulling power when truck is off. In in interim you could add a battery quick disconnect so it won't kill your battery. Do you have any aftermarket audio? I would check that first.

Disconnect your negative battery cable. Connect a test light between the neg terminal and negative battery post. If the light comes on and stays on, you have a parasitic drain. With your test light still connected and lit, start pulling fuses one at a time. When the test light turns of, it will tell you where in your harness the parasite exists. GL and happy hunting.

I do have an after market stereo but it is disconnected at the moment. I will check for a drain. I did notice the ground to the inner fender didn't look to clean, could this cause the issue?

Clean the ground cable up for sure but i don't think it's going to solve your problem.

A bad ground can cause your battery to not fully charge. Did the problem happen before or after the system was installed? If you have an amp make sure the amp is not on when the radio and/or truck is off. Is there a light on the amp? Is it off when you turn the radio off? Some amps can go bad and draw power even when turned off. Did you use the remote turn on lead to switch the amp on and off?

Cleaned the ground up. but still had a draw. checked the stereo which I was pretty sure I did right, have been installing for 18 years but you never know. Turned out the cigarette lighter was causing a draw, unplugged it from the back and the draw went away.

Thanks for the help guys

glad you found it and it wasnt too hard to find. i will have to do the same on my low truck... i dont drive it right now, so just have the batt unhooked... but it'll drain if i leave it for a week.

Check that lighter harness its very poorly made. I just started driving it daily while I am rebuilding another project. Its so fun though

Glad ya found it. I had same problem only I ripped out every wire on the truck it seemed before I found the problem. (who needs a lighter anyways)
