I just bought a 90' 2200 carbureted. It is flooding severely. I pulled the carb, cleaned, dipped, and rebuilt it. And it still floods. BAD!! It pours gas throught the primary venturi even at idle. I pulled the pin out of the rear solonoid like someone suggested, no help. I checked the operation of the A/F mixture sol when it was apart and it seemed to work. I mean the plunger went up and down when energized. I"m just not too familiar with these electronic carbs. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm just not too sure where to go or what to check from here. I ran the mixture screw all the way in and it seems to be a little better. I checked all the vacuum lines. I just don"t know. I'm prety mechanically inclined so I'll try anything. Thanks in advance!!

I assume the bowl fills up correctly? Not to high or to low. These carbs are tempermental. Also the slow cut solenoid valve just has to be cleaned and not altered the (one in back toward firewall).Idk I am just thinking maybe too hard.Unless maybe some adjustments are wacked.I the air to fuel solenoid inside the carb (will dump fuel) if failing not sure like what your describing tho.I will ask some one else to chime in here on this.At least you got it clean and new parts and make sure your choke plate wire to the alternator is plugged in (back side of alt single terminal plug) assume you know this maybe.

The float level is seemingly correct. It comes to halfway in the sightglass. The solonoid on the rear of the carb next to the throttle linkage has the pin and spring removed. Thats what I was told to do by a carb company in FL that remans these all the time, they said they don"t even put the pin in when they sell their carbs. The mixture screw is run all the way in cause its the only way the truck will run decently. When its running, you can pull the breather lid and see gas flowing substantially out of the primary venturi. ALmost lie on a Holley 4 bbl when the needles stick. Its ridiculous. But the float level is good, and I assume the fuel pressure is as well because if it wasn't the fuel level would rise in the sightglass. It floods with the choke wide open too. You can mechanically open the choke flap and it still pours gas out of the venturi. The mixture solonoid operates when you energize and de-energize it manually, but I'm not sure about when its hooked up. I don"t know what to check for. I thought it might have been the idle microswitch but it floods at driving speed too, so it kinda ruled that out. Any help I can get is appreciated and I'll try to answer whatever questions to the best of my ability, that way maybe we can get this figured out.

Hey Nova,

When you pulled the carb apart and re-built it, was there an O-ring on the top and bottom of the Air/Fuel Solenoid? There is supposed to be one at each end of this solenoid where it fits into the carb castings (bowl & lid).
My guess is that your missing a jet or maybe a check ball or something for this to be happening.
Is the truck an auto trans truck?.......was it an auto trans truck and maybe it was switched to a manual trans?
The reason I'm asking this is, the auto trans had a LOW PRESSURE electric fuel pump inside the gas tank, and a block-off plate on the head where the mechanical fuel pump is located......if it has the mech. fuel pump on the rear, passenger side on the head AND a electric pump in the tank, it's possible that the needle/seat won't close because of the extra fuel pressure.......just something to check maybe. If I remember correctly, the auto trans truck should have a fuel pump relay under the drivers side kick panel.....so you could look there maybe.

I am going to post some pics of a 1988 2.2 carb that I cleaned the rust debris out of (from a rusty fuel tank) and got it going again a couple of years ago, just so you can see if you remember if yours was missing anything in the float/fuel bowl area.

Maybe one of the pics might show if yours was missing something.......it's worth a shot anyway.

Wanna see the inside of the gas tank too?

OK!

Wow, Earl is the man!

LOL, Thank's Baha!

Hopefully he can see something here that might help him! Probably going to have to pull the lid off of the carb again though.

I had this whole big reply typed on my phone, took bout 30 minutes to type, hit reply, and it just blinked and went off. HA, my luck. So the short is....I hooked the mix sol to my oscilloscope today and it has power, and the ground is intermitent. Its a factory 5 speed. All the parts are there. But does the mix solonoid passage go to the primary venturi, cause if so I was thinking that maybe the lower o-ring is bad. Gonna take it apart again tomorrow.

Well, I took the lid back off and everything is there. I even replaced the questionable o-ring. Still floods. I checked the intake vacuum, its around 22-23. I checked the timing, its around 7-8, but is bouncing around cause of the way its running. I started checkin and crimping vacuum lines but no change. Any ideas or am I weber bound?
