The notch in the pulley needs to be pointing at the ZERO on the timing cover. That is TDC. Once that is done, verify the cam is at TDC, using the matchmarks on the cam sprocket and head.

Only after that is done do you need to set base ignition timing to 6 degrees BTDC. If the engine will run at this point you can use a timing light to set final values.

Don't get confused between cam timing and ignition timing. You must be close if the engine is running at this point.

Thanks I appreciate it... although thats bad news for me cuz thats what I did... hopefully my dizzy was installed one tooth off.
