Figured out what it is. The CV axle is broken inside the boot (probably from my wreck :/) so I think i'm just going to redo the entire front end

Whelp... I did the new front end. No more grinding!! Took the passenger side CV axle out and it fell apart. Now she's rollin' with two brand new CV axles, new ball joints, tie rod ends, brake shoes/pads, and new rotors up front. Now it has the mazda engine tick

Your truck sounds like a kid with new sneakers, new clothes, and a new haircut, ready for back to school. Feels nice to have everything fresh, doesn't it? Well, it may not feel nice in the wallet. But nothing is free.

As for the tick.... well, it is a Mazda isn't it.

My wallet didn't enjoy it at all :/ but it does feel nice to know that I have a pretty much new front end! How hard is it to swap over to manual hubs? I know that the RFW has to be locked in permanently for them to work... also, when doing brake rotors, where can I get the special tool to get the hub nut out?

You can use the manual locking hubs from a 88' or 87' B2600. That is what I have on my B2600i. I like that I am not spinning the fron end when I don't need to be. Saves gas and wear and tear on the front end.
