MT: Oh My God!!! The intake manifold and cylinder head do not match up on this truck. I think the intake manifold is correct, but the head may be from a different model/vehicle.
After pulling the head, I started the engine and adjusted stuff. I ran the truck on the road and still had dwell at zero when running at a steady speed. Came back and checked for vacuum leaks with spray cleaner and found there was a leak at the front of the manifold. This was a bit mysterious as I had the surfaces clean when I put it together. This leak did not cause the engine to speed up, spray cleaner would slow it down and even kill the engine. Very odd.
I pulled manifold and looked in the leak area. There is a port in the manifold that doesn't have a matching opening in the head (there is one less opening in the head). Not only that, but the way the head is cast, the opening in the manifold is just slightly open to the air. In looking at the manuals I have, it looks like the manifold is right for this truck and the head is wrong. The manifold has FE85 cast on it and the head has FE30.
The opening that is missing from the head is the small one at the bottom front end of the manifold that is a channel for exhaust gas to the EGR valve. That explains the high NOX. When the EGR valve was open it was just sucking air.
What's funny is that all the studs/bolts and other openings in the manifold match up to the head perfectly.
Talk about mysteries.

I bought it seven or eight years ago - I think just before passing an emissions test was required.
Anyway, progress on this is halted until I get the right head for it. The lady who sold it to me said some "overhaul" work had been done. I bet there was a mix-up by whoever did (or exchanged) the head. It seems identical except for that one little port.

Ive got a head for ur truck.Cost u a bunch to ship unless I drop ship it,but pm me if u r interested in it,It is complete with cam, valves ,etc and I know this is the correct head.It has been tanked and trued so it should bolt right up and not even need cleaning.BJ

BJ, I guess I moved too fast. I already ordered a rebuilt head.
BTW, When I talked to the rebuilder and described what I had, he said it was from a 626 and that at one time it was hard to get heads for B2000's because they were so popular so some people were putting 626 heads on them.

83-87 626 heads were SOHC 8 valve which is probably what u have.88-91 and some 92 were SOHC 12 valve heads>Neither would properly fit the 2000 0r 2200 block which u have discovered.I still have the good 2000 head with cam valves and solid lifters if ur other deal falls thru.contined luck on getting the truck to pass emissions.with the proper head and no vacuum leaks u should do fine.Truck has been running lean all this time which explains the low Co/High NOX readings.Last emissions test my truck had 0 co reading but Nox was within spec so I passed and immediately came home and richened my Weber up a tad lest I fry something.Lol..BJ
