I would make sure that the top end and the bottom end are aligned for tdc (top dead center) on cylinder 1 then se the dist accordingly. Might work.

yeah i tried that but i cant figure out the cam tdc, it has a 1 2 3 4 with arrows and the book said align it up with a 0 and the cam pully does have three little numbers and one was a 0 and i tried that along with all the rest. and on the crank the timing mark always go to tdc easy but is there a comp. and exh. stroke when lining up the crank

put the number 1 piston TDC there is a mark on the cranks timing gear and anther one on the oil pump. Just line those 2 up. Now this is were your power stroke will come into play. with the valve cover off turn the cam till you see the number 1's intake valve open and close then turn it to the 1 on the cam sprocket comes back up and line up the arrows.

put the belt back on. then put the Dist cap on and mark were your number 1 wire is. then take the cap back off and and when you put the dist in make sure the rotor button lines up with your mark. try and get it were the bolt that holds the dist in will have the same amount of adjustment on each side. then put your cap back on and put all your plug wires back on in this order 1 3 4 2. That is what I have always done and my starts every timing on the first try

Awesome thanks alot for your help i got it running tonight everything was just a little off, so i timmed it just so it would run fixed all the little leaks and everything but now its running supper rich and misses and barely runs, wont stay running if i hit the gas at all, and it chatters really bad, so i think the rockers need adjusted since i switched to manual lifters but any ideas on what else is wrong?

Agian thanks for all your help i adjusted the lifters and now it runs good, now it just idle's around 2000-3000 and if i try timming it so it runs slower it dies out around 1500 and wont idle under that any way to maybe adjust the the carb or is it still out of time?
