Ok...I had a thought. Lets just say I were to get a crank shaft from a pick and pull....could I replace just the crank with out pulling the motor? Drop the oil pan and the crossmember up front and get it upside down? I know it is not right but bear with me. I am talking about just getting it to move on its own power for a short while for as little as possible. If I did get it to run then I can go forth with the bags and still try to get her bagged by MWDF in June.

Well let all the replies roll in!!!

dude, cranks weigh like 50# and the fucking rods are connected to it dude. duh bro. just pull that shit and rebuild the whole thing. rebuild kits arent that expensive but machining is. if u want to do it right ull have to at least replace the rod bearings and clearance them and have a machine shop make sure the broke ass crank didnt fuck anything up in the bottom end. how do u know the crank is broke?

Um the front piece of it that the pully bolts to and holds the threads for the bolt is now laying in my drive way. That kinda gave it away. Sorry for not being the most inteligent on the motor. I only am familar with the top end. I can design and sell a playground like a mo fo but I am no freakin mechanic.

So does everybody concur then that it is impossible to do a quick change on a crank?

And I wasn't tryin to be a dick...if I came off that way sorry. Its just I dont fuckin know the lower end. Last truck(s) yes I would just pull the motor and swap in one of the others that I had that ran. However when I moved to MS I sold everything and only have this one truck...well project truck.

Anyways...

OH just incase you didn't know... I am not in this truck for very much that is why I am not so sure about dumping $1,500 in it to rebuild and add a weber and header.

i have a 87 2.0 w/156tho. it was in my parts truck and its just the block and rotating assembly and power steering pump and clutch. the guy took it apart to rebuild. he said the pistons were loose and the rings were brittle but i think he was a crack head. how the hell can you feel thousandths of an inch with ur fingers. he said he could wiggle the piston and feel the bad rings but i wiggle them and feel nada. u can have it if you want to come get it.
