Ok, I'm well aware that the F engine family from Mazda is a straight-4 piston engine. This motor was found in the Mazda B-Series truck and 1984-2002, also in Mazda 626's, and 929's. Depending on the years.
Now I may have came across wrong with saying a Mazda B2200 Carburated motor. (which is Mistubushi) when stating the F2 comment, the F family is Mazda, thats obvious, But I own 3 Mazda B2200's, All have 2.2L, 5spd's, and the ECU's are produced in japan by Mitsubushi. thats why i stated the B2200 was a 2.2L mitsubushi motor. Now the The 2.0L FE - came 1985-1987, not just 1985, 1986, my mistake.
Now as everyone knows the "New B-Series" was introduced in 1986 and was produced until 1993. A 4-speed automatic transmission or a 5-speed manual transmission were offered. Part-time four wheel drive was an option. The 2.6 L Mitsubishi-powered B2600 was introduced in 1987, 2wd i do believe. This year also saw the Mazda 2.2L straight-4 being offered in the B2200, with the smaller 2.0L engine phased out after that year. The Mitsubishi engine was gone for 1989, replaced by a new family of Mazda powerplants.
There were four basic head types within the F range, the diesel SOHC 8-valve, the petrol SOHC 8-valve, petrol SOHC 12-valve, and the petrol DOHC 16-valve. These heads came attached to multiple variations of the different blocks and strokes. Only the petrol 8-valve and 12-valve shared the same gasket pattern.
Now the 1977-1985 Mazda B2000 - This 2.0L was designated MA. Now this engine is only a predecessor to the F series engines, in no other way related. The Bore was 80 mm and stroke was 98 mm. This SOHC engine with a 2 barrel carburettor produced 103 hp and 123 ft lb. A more fuel-efficient 1 barrel version produced 90 hp. Fuel injection was available in 81-82.
1985-1987 - The 2.0L FE was very different with a square 86 mm bore and stroke. It was an 8-valve SOHC engine for front-wheel drive (626, 929 and other models also) and rear wheel drive pickup use. Output was 90 hp for the 1 barrel carburetor version, 100 hp @ 5600 rpm & 156 N m @ 3700 rpm for the 2 barrel carburetor version, or 118 hp @ 5300 rpm & 178 N m @ 3700 rpm with fuel injection and higher compression (10:1 vs 8.6:1).
1987-1993 Mazda B2200 we have the F2. The F2 is a stroked version of the FE, as i said earlier, it was introduced for the 1988-1992 GD platform cars, (GD platform was introduced in 1987 in Japan and later elsewhere), it can also be found in the B2200 pickup. Although available as an 8-valve SOHC in the B2200, this car is most commonly a 12-valve SOHC, with an 86 mm bore and 94 mm stroke with an 8.6:1 compression ratio. It generates 110 hp @ 4700 rpm and 130 ft lb.
Now we also have the G family of Mazda engines is a family of large straight-4 piston engines that was commercialize from 1989. The B-series started at 2.6 L for the Mazda B-Series truck from '89-'93. Prior to that, a 2.6 L Mitsubishi engine was used.
Now the 4G54, it could be found in 1986-1988 Mazda B2600. The SOHC 8-valve 4G54 (also known as the G54B) displaces 2.6 L, with bore x stroke at 91.1 mm x 98.0 mm. Some had heads with additional jet valves to improve emissions. It was designed for longitudinal use in rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive vehicles. It was equipped with a Hitachi 2-barrel carburetor with a vacuum-operated progressive secondary, except for the turbocharged version and a version used in Australian Mitsubishi Magnas, which used fuel injection. This engine was also used on Chrysler's front-wheel drive K-cars and their derivatives from 1981 until 1987, when it was replaced by Chrysler's 2.5 L engine. This engine was commonly paired with Chrysler's A470 3-speed automatic transmission on Chrysler vehicles.
Mazda replaced the G54B with its own 2.6 L G6 engine which displaced 2606 cc. It was used in the B2600 pickup from 1988-1993.
The 2.6 L Mazda G54B was actually a Mitsubishi engine. It displaced 2555 cc and was used in the B2600 pickup from 1986-1988.
Hope i cleared everything up. Correct me if im wrong on anything. I've got these from my Mazda sources here at home.
