1 wire and 3 are pretty much the same just the 3 wire is more of a mess the red wire hooks too the main stud and the white wire is for a guage

No, No its not, the 2 wireplug is for voltage sense and the other is a ground, bad thing is if the internal regulator on a wire goesout, that voltage sense wire melts and or causes a fire, None are for a gauge a gauge is optional and can be added to any alternator, the rear red stud hooks to the battery, the other on the top/side where the plug goes goes toa ground then to the battery..
