ok, so heres the deal, my truck quit running, i know i know, why dont i just fix it? ive tried, im about at my wits end with this thing

a couple weeks ago i was driving down the road (about 30 mph) when it started dying... i feathered the gas and clutched and braked with my left foot until i got it home, i figured it was the fuel pump so replaced that with a new one as well as the filter, when it still wouldnt run right i drained the tank and refilled it (thinking i had a spiteful ex on my hands) still no go, then i swapped carbs with a recently rebuilt carb hoping maybe that was the case, no go there either...

today i replaced the cap rotor plugs and wires thinking i was looking in the wrong place and it was actually electrical (3 of four plugs were fouled, looking like the electrode was dipped in an ashtray and the fourth was loose to the point that i unscrewed it by hand)

i fired the truck up again today, it idled better than ever before, hoping all was well i took it out for a test drive, made it about a 1/4 mile then everything started happening again, the truck bucks like its miss firing, then runs like its choking out with too much fuel, if i feather the throttle i can limp it home but it dies as soon as i let off, then fires right back up in the driveway... also, i can throttle up in the driveway and it'll run like a champ just not under load....

somebody please help me before i light this thing on fire!

possibly a vacuum leak or stopped up converter?not sure but gotta start somewhere!!

no converter on the truck and most of the vac lines on the carb are new...

p.s. why did my distributor cap have the tri diamond dsm logo on it?

try wireing your choke open and see if that does anything...

ok, backing up a few steps before i start stripping all the 4x4 sweetmetal..

the cat is still in place, i was under the impression that it was hollowed out but i guess i was wrong, later this afternoon (if the monsoon stops) ill be cutting out the cat and building a 'custom' exhaust system

i really hope this is it, otherwise i think im out of options...and cash

you should definetely entertain the idea that its out of time. it sounds alot like it. atleast throw a timing light on it after you explore the converter.

check your distributor... ok so hes what happened to me.. i changed everything and i mean everything.. fuel tank pump filter, line, carb, wires, DIST ( brand new) cap rotor coil.. and the truck was running like crap.. hesitating and stuttereing.. so.. i was like.. well ill swap engines.. engines swapped.. put the same NEW dist back on and teh truck still hesitated.. took me a couple days trying to tune the carb and minor stuff to come to the realization tha tthe only thing i put on this engine from the old truck was teh dist..... so i put the old distubuter on.. and wammo... she purrs like a kitten...
