overheating

hey guy.. ok so we ust finished the build on my 73 . the truck runs really well.. except it over heats after about a 20 minute drive.. it seems the truck takes about 3 litres of water after every 20 minute drive.. that to me doesnt seem right at all.. could it be evaporating that quick? i put o hose on the top of the rad and undid the drain plug.. the rad flows perfectly, i took out the trermostate and went for a drive thinkin that maybe its not opening.. same story overheated. where is this water going.. i looked at the oil ( via the dip stick) and it looks like ass...lol.. it appears to be more liguidy than it should be.. but not like i would expect it to look with water in it.. it jjust looks like it has been heated up beyond its limits . so an oil change is in order, will coolant make that big of a difference? over water for the time being.. ( during my tests) i guess it could be the water pump. that would suck . but they have a couple on eebay .. so not so bad

please let me know aht you guys are thinkin.. i do plan on rebuilding a 2.3 for this truck ( stock is a 1. but i dont plan on doing that till the winter

try the water pump or cluttch fan if you said waters moving freely mayb water pumps still good..

i have an electric fan..i guess i should mention that the rad and the fan are off of a chevy sprint

You really should take the bottom rad house off and test the flow that way. The water should run out as fast as you put it in. If it does not it might be clogged. It might be the water pump as well. My moms car does somewhat the something and we had to shops say water pump. But she does have a brand new rad

when you drain the oil see if there is any antifreeze or water in there. it could be a head gasket or a crack in the block.

im almost 100 percent certian that there is water in the oil.. the level has increses.. it was readin half on the dip stick now its over full.. so i have a gasket comming in tomorrow and i hope togod thats the issue and not a cracked block... that would really ruin my day.. but then i could get an engine with more damn power than the b1800..lol

if there is water in the oil it will look milky and check your raditator cap it the seal is bad it will boil out and and overheat

if you redo your head gasket make sure you take the head to a machine shop and have it checked for cracks and have it resufaced or it will just pop a agin

oil doesnt apper to be milky at all.. just seems to be alot more than there was a couple days ago.. and it flows downthe dips stick alot easier than oil should... machine shop eh... ok.. ill do that..
