Hello, I'm a new mazda owner and therefor new to the forum, hoping to get some help. My problem is with my temp gauge, it has no movement at all just sits at the bottom. I replaced the thermostat and still no response, so I looked in my manual for the location of the sending unit, it said it was in the rear of the block on the driver side but all I found there was the oil sending unit. I scoured the forum and found answers to the sending units' location but not in my year range, all the answers were for 93 and older, saying the unit is below the thermostat, but it's not there on mine. Anybody know where the sending unit is located on a 94-97 b2300 4 cylinder? Thanks

it could be located on the head or intake manifold it going to be one wier and it will screw in to where ever its located. not shure with your truck i have an 88 2200 but check you cloint temp sensor that probley what it is the wier might have goten knocked off or the sensor is bad

Well, I looked all around the head and intake manifold but still no luck. the manual says it's threaded into the driver's side of the engine block, at the rear, just below the cylinder head, and to not get the 2 sending units confused, and that the coolant unit is located below the oil unit. But I can't even find a disconnected wire or anything like that anywhere in that area or thermostat area, or upper motor area. Thanks for the idea to look up top, but so far I'm still at square zero.

Also, I forgot to say that my temp controller inside the cab doesn't work. If the engine is cool the ac works but the heat doesn't. But when it's warm it just blows hot air no matter what setting it's on; a/c, hot, cold, it just blows hot. Is this related to the gauge?

from what if found in my scarch on line it looks like it has 2 wiers and if its un pluged it will not make the nedel in side move. not sure where its located but im trying to find adigram so you know

is the check engine light on? if so it more than likley the temp sensor

So I found it, not anywhere near where the manual said. There are 2 sensors near each other screwed into a secondary pipe that comes off the thermostat housing. And unlike everybody said it DOES have 2 wires. Today I replaced both sensors, after replacing the second sensor there was movement in the gauge. However it only goes to cold, it moves off it's resting place but even with a 15 min drive it goes no higher than the C on the gauge. Thanks for the help jo, and no the check engine isn't on nor are there any codes stored. I wonder if I replaced the thermostat backwards, is that why it registers so little movement?

your tstat might be bad just coause its new doesnt mean its working.....take it out and drop it in a pot of boiling water see if it opens...

well, I put both stats in some boiling water, they both opened, the new 1 and the old 1, the copper part stuck out about 1/4 inch. Looks like the stats work and the sensors ought to work, since they're new too, I'm not sure what to try next. Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks.

Now I'm beginning to bang my head against a wall....I put the thermostat back in and no difference, the gauge still only worked moderately. So I decided to get a new sensor and switch out the sensors which broke the gauge again, so I got another sensor (total of 4 sensors bought, 2 Neihofs @$25 each and 2 duralasts @$18 each) now with any combination of sensors I get no reading at all on the gauge. Please help!!
