Piston Rings

From all my research, it looks like I'm getting extensive blow by caused by worn piston rings and creating enough pressure to blow oil out my valve cover breather into my air cleaner. I did a compression test and I got 150-155 on all four cylinders. I did a wet test and got 180-185 on all four cylinders. My question is do I need to pull the whole engine out to change the rings? or can I change them with the block still in the engine bay. I just want to solve the blow by problem and the oil blowing out the breather. Not looking for a complete overhaul. Any other tips would help me alot.

Yes they can be changed w/ the engine in the truck, BUT not worth the hassle! It is much easier to pull the engine out, trust my Ive done it and will never do that again! Pain in the arse doesnt come close! Hard to get accurate messurments on the crank Tuff to hone the cylinders leaning over the fenders, and a bitch to make sure you get the block clean for reassembly! Pull the engine and do it right the first time, trust me! If you want to try it run some seafoam through in your oil change your problem could be just your oil rings are seized! Not likly but worth a shot if your unable to do a rebuild right now! Just a thought!

The truck was sitting for about 2yrs. I'll give the seafam a shot. Do I put the whole bottle in?

there is directions on the bottle for how much to use depending on the size of your gas tank. its best to put in before you get gas to so it mixes well with the gas.

I think so, read the bottle to be sure, You could get a can of the spray and shoot it in the combustion chamber throught the spark plug hole to help with the process! If the truck wasnt run in two years you could have more problems start popping up the a rebuild would fix! Like headgasket, valvestem seals, a number of things get brittle or rust when the just sit unrun! just my .02

LAYEDOUTB2K, You can also put the seafoam in with you oil. Just not instead of oil!

yeah, i forgot about that. i normally run lucas in my oil and have run seafoam in my gas. actually now that i think of it, whenever i pick up a vehicle thats been sitting for a long time, i normally put some marvel mystery oil down all the cylinders and let it sit overnight

I'll try some marvel oil in my cylinders too before I start taking it apart. The truck runs really great except for the oil coming out of the breather. Can anyone tell me if those compression test numbers are good??? Any other help would be great!

is it normal to have even the slightess oil blow by on the lil sponge in air cleaner ,mine just looks a tiny bit brown but not wet or anything just curious i here this problem alot
