I just got my motor bolted in loose on the mounts and, a couple bolts loosley and evenly started between the engine and trans. I pulled the plugs and loosened the belts then, I turned the crank over to get the torque converter bolts in. Put the first bot in, then the second. I went to turn the motor over again for the 3rd bolt and it is locked solid. Any ideas?

may be a stupid question but is the truck in gear?

No, it is in neutral and an the rear tires are off the ground. I thought the same thing myself.

can you drop your oil pan? unbolt your crossmember and the steering linkage, the tranny brackets that are bolted to the engine, and then unbolt the oilpan. check and see if there is any binding and see if you can see anything that could be stopping the rotation.

I replaced the cam before I put this motor in the truck so I have turned the motor over several times by hand before installing it in finding TDC. I just can't figure how it could be binding on anything with everything else seemingly lined up perfectly. Are the clearances on the flywheel to torque converter nipple so close that it would have the flywheel in a bind being only bolted tight on two bolts?

same thing happened with the subaru and i had to pull tengine loose again it was a bolt caught in the tranny locking in up.......engine would turn then lock....and turn the other way and lock...might wanna check that

I checked and there is nothing obstrusting the converter. Motor is locked solid no matter which way you turn the crank. Unless you unbolt the trans then it is free. I dont know what could be the problem.

are the bolts too long? was it running before u did work on the engine? and sure ur timing is right??? maybe have someone push in the clutch and try, could be a gearbox problem

I have the right bolts,it was running, timing is perfect, no clutch to push in
