i done valve seals before with the head on the truck, personally, its not hard, but time consuming, and tedious, i bought a compression tester, and used the line from that, with a fitting to plug in the air compressor line, and theres a tool for it which looks like a pry bar to pop off the springs and clips, then replace the seal and reverse the process, and only do one cylnder at a time, that includes spark plugs
just be patient and you can do it, if you drop a valve then the head is comming off

read up on it as much as you can, look at, give your self a game plan and you'll be able to do it

Ill give a little here. Tools needed that you can get at any parts house. The air fitting for the spark plug hole... like said above. There are a few diff spring compressors one is the prybar deal wich im not fond of. There is also a clamp and crank style that will hold the spring compressed while you get the keepers off. you have to pull the rocker assem and pull all the plugs. Put air in the first hole make sure it doesnt have a buch of leaks or make sure you have enough comp to hold it up while you do the job. Ok air in now take a socket and put on the retainer and give it a tap to lossen it some. Then put spring comp on and compress spring till the keepers are free. Use a strong magnet to get the keepers once they are off remove spring with comp still on it. Remove old seal. Now take the little plastic cover that came with seals and place over valve stem dont push to hard or it will open the valve and release the air and drop the valves. Then install new seal make sure the new seal seats down get a peice of tube or pipe that will clear the valve and the rubber seal and just sit on the metal part of the seal and tap it down. Then put spring back on when you put the keepers back on use some thick greese it will help the keepers stay on while you back the comp off. Make sure the keepers are right when you take the comp off or it will send the keeper to no mans land. I would get a few extra keepers before you start. Also do a comp check to make sure that its not the rings. If you drop a valve pull the head

I have never done it this way but I have read that you can put some rope in the spark plug hole then raise the piston. the rope will keep the valve from falling in the cylinder. Like I said, this is somthing that I read.
