Think about the monster that Dr. Frankenstein built.

He had two bolts holding his head on.

If both were loose at the same time. . .

His head would fall off.

Maybe.

In the case of an internal combustion motor with an iffy head gasket seal. . .

Too many loose bolts causes the loss of whatever seal may still remain.

Definately.

. . .and to respond to the question regarding oil control rings. . .those are the two thin metal rails on the third ring land (scrapers) that are supposed to last a long time but never do.

haha, you are correct my friend.
once again thanks for your assistance/expertice.
do you have a certain company or know of any specialty places that have the best engine rebuild kits?

Since you asked. . .

If your truck is ok after you have done your retorque attempt, my suggestion to you is that you find a rebuildable short block to go through. . .the reason being that *if* your motor has gone that many miles, the cylinders are probably out of round and tapered, such that an overbore is going to be necessary anyway.

You could drive the truck to get your parts, get to the machine shop, etc., and then you would have the short block ready and swap it when you need a clutch or something.

excellent, and yeah that was the plan.
but you think i should just get a block?
head should be good, right? as long as i get it shaved once i go to swap it onto the new block.
