I replaced master and slave cylinder about 6 months ago, worked fine. But last few days, the pedal has hung on the floor a few times. Now the pedal is hard as a rock, won't press down a bit. Any ideas?
And thanks for all the useful info on this board, I've made many repairs following ya'lls tips, thanks..Jim

With assistant pressing clutch pedal, verify pushrod actuation, if any, at slave cylinder

Make sure the resevoir is full.

Loosen the slave bleeder.

Test for pedal operation.

Leave pedal on floor.

Tighten bleeder.

If pedal moved to floor, pedal actuation and hydralic master subsytem is normal.

If pedal did not move, check for binding pedal pivot or bloked master cylinder.

With all hardware reinstalled, faulty operation may be internal to clutch.

When my pedal stuck to the floor it was my slave cylinder. replaced and bled the system and it works fine. Air in the slave will cause the pedal to stick to the floor I found that out haha. I primed the slave cylinder before putting it in this is time consuming though

Thanks for the help. I removed the slave cylinder, there was pressure on the mounting bolts (not a good sign).
The arm coming out of the transmission, that connects to the slave cylinder, is flopping around. Thats another bad sign !! So the bare minimum is probaly a throw out bearing, right? I know, replace it all, but money is so tight right now. Any ideas, should I just replace the whole clutch assembly?
The old truck runs good and is worth fixing. Thanks all !!!!!!!!!!!!!

With as much work as it takes to get to the throw out bearing, and as much piece of mind an entire new clutch provides, why would you attempt to save maybe $100.00.

The bearing is about 30 by itself.

But you have to pull the transmsiion back to get to it. I use rachet straps to keep the trans suspended.

If the throw out is bad, it is really likely the imput shaft bearing (in the crankshaft) is about to fail, as it is subject to the same rotational loading as the throw out. Think about whether you want to go back into this a second time if the output bearing fails in a month. . . 12 hours of your time is worth MORE. (6x2)

If you don't pull the clutch down to at least inspect it, maybe that is where your problem is. . .broken spings internally, preventing diaphragm operation.

How many miles are on the clutch? they don't last forever.

I know you're right, guess I'll see if I can get it high enough off the sand to work on it. Sure wish I had a garage, or at least a hard driveway. I'll let ya know what I find in there.............thnx

Shows 122000 miles, but the engine may have been swapped, don't know about the transmission.

A standard set of rollup ramps will get the vehicle high enough to do the clutch.

The transmission can be slid back so it is out of the way.

If you haven't done one of these, it looks intimidating.

But I think in your case, the hardest part is going to be getting the vehicle's front wheels at the top of the ramps.

In my experience, B-truck clutch replacements are the easiest ones I have ever done.

The easiest car clutch was a Datsun F10.

Thanks for helping another member out....I may be needing your help and Bj and other motor guru's...my brother just bought a B and needs to fine tune the running of it.

Hi Jeff . . . no applause necessary or needed . . .

. . .wasn't really gone so much as involved with some emergency / time-intensive issues. . .

Let your brother know about the site, get him registered and all, start a thread. . .maybe what is needed will be simple.

I like simple.
