so im baffled right now. needed some oil so added 5 qt. like i always do when it starts ticking. get back to the house and its smells of oil burning. go in the house and little bit later look out and there is big spot under front end. check the pvc it ratles. ok its good. pull cover off , filter out and start watching. find vacuum line off put it back on. oil starts flowing in to the housing. it comes from the front left side, from behind the baffle in the front. there is a valve looking deal under neath in line to where it starts flowing. any idea whats going on?

Do you not have a dip stick?

Is that why you add "5 qt." like you "always do" when it "starts ticking."

Can someone else please explain what is wrong with this picture. . . because I just don't know where to start. . .

ya ya ya! i know already. i do check it. but i havent driven it for a few days and it started ticking right away. once it warmed up and it didnt stop i knew it needed oil. but thanks for leading me in the right direction.

did u add 5 qt or .5 qt??? I'm guessing if it is 5 then you are prolly WAY overfilled and thats your problem. If not maybe you got some burnt rings and some blow-by if your losing oil (i know that is my problem burnt out rings in number 4)

i added 5 qt. i know its 1/2 qt too much. but the oil is literally flowing into the housing. its not blow by.

its half a qt too much if it was completly empty?? was it??? you just said it started ticking which mine will do when it is low a qt or so and if i added 5 i would be 4 qt over full.

mine ticks when its way low. this isnt the first time ive added after low oil, but it is the first time for overflow into the air filter housing. thats my biggest concern right now.

Back after a few days. . .and reading through these responses. . .

I guess I have to make this really simple. . .

The wheels on the bus go round and round. . .

Why?

Because the pistons in the engine go up and down.

Up and down, up and down.

They force around a crankshaft.

They go up and down.

And force around, a cranshaft.

When the connecting rods go round and round, they swing around, and in YOUR case, snoplow, . .

they plow INTO

a BIG OVERFILLED POOL OF CRANKCASE OIL. 5 quarts plus whatever was already there. Maybe 4. So maybe 9.

Imagine egg whites in a bowl. Two or three. Or nine.

Now take an egg wisk, and start beating the egg whites. Really hard. Like 3000 rpm.

Pretty soon, the egg white fluid starts collecting air, and then you get bubbles mixed in. Nice big foamy shaving cream looking stuff. Merangue. You can cook it, and eat it. Yum yum.

Your engine, on the other hand CANNOT digest OIL FOAM. That is what OIL turns into when the rods start beating into TOO MUCH OIL IN THE CRANKCASE.

If I were you, MY biggest concern was where I was going to come up with money for a new motor.

OK...that was a nice description...
Check your oil level...better yet drain it ALL! replace the filter and put back in the recommended oil amount. Also spend the $4 and get a new pcv valve (is that studdering since the V is for valve?) If you overfill it can cause oil to come out of a lot of places...seals, gaskets, plugs, etc....

lol why on earth would you add a gallon of oil to a truck just because it was ticking.... hey its got hydrolic lifters.... which tick often even when theres enough oil..... you should always check the dip stick and only add till its to the FULL mark which is the little F........ even when it gets down to the add mark it still doesn't need 5 quarts.....
