My guess would be you need a 6v circuit not 12v or some kind of relay to cycle it. What kind of pump is it? I used a cheap pump on my old mazda and it did the same thing got hot and quit working i ended up just putting a manual pump on it since i had a few laying around.

how about your ground did you make a good ground for it, and what size wire did you use to run power to it

used the same ground from the last setup, and have 12 gauge wire for it. i went ahead and ordered a new pump, its 120 psi and 70 gph so im hoping it will work.

i went and bought a multimeter and checked it. with the truck off and just the pump on its pulling around 11.6 volts. and when i turn the truck on and run the pump it jumps up to around 13.6 volts

ah sounds like over powering, may have to find you a 14volt pump
