Okay I don't follow.

Will your motor turn over with the key switch?

If so it will not start, but if you pull start it will start?

Maybe your ignition switch is bad.

I *think* what you are saying is that you can bump it off with a rolling start.

But when you try to use the key, nothing happens in the "start" position.

Starter and solenoid are one assembly on these trucks, no relays.

A lot of amperage goes through the switch, and they can melt the contacts.

You can test the starter and solenoid with a junpout switch. . .but if you do, make sure the vehicle is in neutral.

Yea who ever had the truck before me put a button start.. so you just turn the key on and push the button to start.. all wireing is good I checked.. some times it starts and sometimes it don't... just like im pressing a dead button.. have had the truck for five years andit just started doing this...

you might check your fusing. could of just had a fuse pop.

Two 14mm headed bolts hold the starter to the engine, you can remove it from the top, on the passenger side.

The electrical feed is either a 10mm or 12mm headed nut. The solenoid wire is held with a placstic clip.

Unless you have a weird battery issue, pull the starter and get it checked for free somewhere.

Unless you have a weird battery issue. Then maybe that should be checked too.

As simple as a starter circuit is on these trucks. . . .why would anyone bypass it with a button. . . .?

Yeah I'm gonna have to get the starter checked... I don't know why they put a Button.. they key worked at first andthen stopped but the button always worked.. is the starter and solenoid one unit??

Before I yanked off the starter, I would take a test light and make sure you have power at the main connection, and then have someone try and crank it over and make sure you get power to the start circuit wire on the starter(the one that just pushes on, I think). If when you try to start it the little wire on the starter gets 12 volts then yes the starter is probably bad. A little diagnosis might save you some time and headache, and it is very simple to do. Also make sure the connections are good, tight with no corrosion.
