So i bought a used b2200 for my son. it does not run. it had distributor cap off when i got it. I'm unsure of where the wires should plug in. I got a haines book and it has #1 cylinder on the top of distributor. I was told if the bottom timing mark and top timing mark was lined up then the distributer should be facing #1 cylinder, true? If it is my #1 would be at the front. help me hows yours?

google can be your best friend.. just go by this one, and should be fine once you get wires matched up and what not because if the previous owner hasnt messed with the timing belt that should be fine and dandy

here are timing marks

match the marks up and number one cylinder will be at top dead center.

I understand your pics they are the same as my book. But at TDC my distributor is facing toward the front not up like pics. I had to put belt and all on this truck so who knows what else the guy has screwed up. Should I pull distributor out and move so it points up?

My b2000 (at tdc) has the rotor facing 7:30 (clock face position) then turns clockwise after that to no.3, no.4, no.2.
If you wind the engine until it is at 6-8deg btdc on the crank, undo and remove the distributor and look at the shaft you will see a guide line on the shaft, a dimple in the gear itself and a dimple in the engine block.
Line all these up and push distributor back in to the hole and it will self align to position.
Then hook up a test light between the coil positive wire (not ht lead) and the dizzy, turn the ignition on and slowly turn the dizzy either direction until the light turns on.
Do up the dizzy, put rotor back in and remove test light, put cap back on and start plugging in the leads starting at the one the rotor is facing then go clockwise 1.3.4.2, this should get you running.
This is known as static timing and is good for when you put an engine back together also.
I just had to swap my distributor and it is a 4 minute job I was able to do at the local car park with very basic tools.
Hope this helps

Mine is a 88. Last night I moved dizzy to where it was pointing to about 12 o'clock and also pointing at # 1. I then plugged all my wires in just like it's pictured. Didn't get a chance to try it yet I will tonight. Sounds right though doesn't it?
