New here, and new to these trucks...just got a 1988 B2200. Runs pretty good but looks like it's totally stock. Have a few things that I need to get fixed and can't find a manual anywhere in the truck. Looks like the gas guage isn't working...not sure on the temperature guage. Where do I start with that? Not sure if it could just be a fuse. Also the chrome trim around the doors, what do most do about it? Was thinking of just taking it off and seeing whats underneath but thought I'd ask first. Included a picture.

Doing a little at a time.

Will post more pics tomorrow. Also wanted to ask, what is the handle for between the steering wheel and center console? Looks like it's supposed to be pulled to do something.

That handle is your emergency brake. Pull it out to set the brake and twist it to the right to dis engage. Since your truck is an auto you will probably never use it. If the roof rail trim is like the extended cab they just pop off. Put your thumb under the back corner and push up and they should roll up and off of the lip.

I have an ext. cab where can you buy the chrome trim around the windshield and the doors?

You can try junk yards, but if you are looking for new...Dealer only and expensive.

That window trim is around 300 per side maybe more. Junk yard is your best bet. the piece around the window is bolted in with a clip along the bottom. This clip will break when removed. Here is the part number UB54-50-818 and they are still available from the dealer.

Don't really know which section to ask about the gas gauge and temperature gauge problems as I don't even know the size of the engine...looks like 2.2L is the norm, any ideas from just a picture?

Also, just noticed this that might be related, one loose little piece of cable near the gar filler neck and then a bundle of cables close to one of the corners of the gas tank.

That air duct/hose are to bring in air (air cooler than that under the hood) to your air filter/carburetor. I've already sold mine, get a used one or duct-tape yours.

Fuel gauge issues are primarily due to sending units needing replaced, or cleaned and the contact arm bent. This can be accessed by tilting the truck bed, I've posted details and photos how I do this on mine, do a Search.

For coolant temperature, first make sure that the wire is still attached to the sending unit, underneath the thermostat outlet pipe.

Is this the post you were talking about on the bottom? I'm not seeing any pictures on that thread. " target="_blank

And the wire on the coolant temperature sending unit is still there, kinda tight though, not much slack in it...so I guess the temperature sensor has gone bad?

If you have a multimeter you could take a resistance reading off the sensor (take it out, put it in a bowl add some water see if it changes etc).
Follow cussers advice on the bottom of the thread you found to see what state of health your sender unit is in
Since it's both... it may not be co-incidence.... check your instrument cluster grounds (I'm always suggesting bad grounds as the cause of electrical problems... lol)

I have the sensor out right now but not sure how to test it with a multimeter since only 1 wire goes to it.
