So my 2.2 just started to cough every now and then the other day and now its more often. It seems to cut out at random rpms not at the same rpm every time. I have a video on instagram so anyone can hear it. It usaully happens when i go from low rpm and put a large load on the motor(WOT). Anyone have ideas?
Instagram: undead_mazduh give me a follow while your there lol

My idea is that I have NO IDEA what an Instagram is. If it's anything to do with a phone, then my TracFone can't access that. So not "anyone" can hear it.

I'd suggest looking at the usual suspects: fuel filter, distributor advance, distributor electronics, spark plugs, or arcing spark plug wires.

But i will take your advice ive already popped the dizzy cap and that looks good but it may just need a tuneup i guess

How about the ignition switch? Is it the original unit?

Its got 128,xxx miles so I believe so. Whould a ignition switch do this?

If it's this video we're supposed to watch, I'd say it might be a carb issue. Maybe the accelerator pump is bad.

Ok so it has a weber swap and a pacesetter on it. It just got alot worse too. I know what a fuel pump is but what is an accelerator pump?

Sin asked about the ignition switch because some of the contacts can become worn, and be intermittent and then fail. The circuit for the starter may be fine, but the circuit to the engine/coil can be bad.

Many of us have experienced strange running issues, or even stalling while powering down the road with radio, instrument panel lights, all going out.

So how do i test for a bad switch?

Voltmeter at coil positive terminal. Have someone turn to "run" position, then off, a zillion times, read the voltage. Have the helper jiggle the switch while in the "run" position, see if the voltage changes/drops.

On mine, once the issue first surfaced, within a week I was having real problems starting, running, thought I'd die if it went dead as I was making a left turn.....and if that happened, I couldn't sleaze up these boards....
