to (Mtrain) agree and understand your point i have spent 1000's on paint jobs and spent $20. at the moment i just don't own anything i feel like putting more than a few bucks in. i mainly blogged about it to show some folks, and give them some courage to try things themselvs. that and if you want something that looks decent until you can afford something more options are out there and why not do it yourself. better to learn painting at 8.00 a quart than 150 a quart.

Agreed. I've always thought it would be good to paint a car this way that you want to sell. Like I said, I thought I had the world by the balls, I thought I had split the atom, after I finished mine.

It was as glossy as the expensive stuff, just not 5 year later.......lol.

alright been a while since i have been on and been able to work on the truck. lets see started new job got divorced, was laid off work and been working on the truck for the past 3 weeks. i decided this morning i wanted to make a bed cover for the truck so i have been saving tons of metal bed frames that i have found and started to build the frame. and this is what i ended up with notice my oldest son is very interested in this truck.

i will probably get a few inquiries about the bed cover so i will document as best i can basicly i made a frame out of angle iron. just a hair smaller than the inside of the bed so it can open and close easily. i will next have to put in a few braces going from front to back because i will cover the metal with luan and have to put the braces where the seems are. i use industrial glue to hold the luan to the metal along with a few flat head sheetmetal screws. i then mix up fiberglass resin and coat the top and bottom of the bed cover then i lay two layers of 4 oz glass. smooth out and then paint same color as the truck. i may lay a newer style mazda symbol into the top of the bed cover. to seal the eadge i lay self sticking weatherstripping and it also stops all the noise of the frame hitting the bed edge.

to hold the frame up you can use the shocks used to hold back hatches of explorers, blazers, hatch back cars to hold the bed cover up .. Just make sure they're a good length and sturdy.. also i would put another rail down the middle( front to back) for support and sturdyness .

yes i planned on adding more support from front to back because i have to section the luan i will add the braces staggered when i seem the cover to put the supports under the seams. i hope to start the cover this weekend.

Thanks for sharing the bed cover. I don't know if you've seen the ones from Check Mate but the construction is almost identical.
