SOO 2.3 i am open to this idea. ! I'm guessing it will take no drive line or tranny mods?
Plans from the start have been to get a nice short block weather it be whatever, put it on this bench and build it over the next month , or so~~ baby due in sept' so money a little weird but gotta keep forward progress!

As stated before i am not looking to build a HOTROD but a little extra power never bothers me
Im guessing the 2.3 will be a little more powerful then this motor. I know absolutely nothing about either of these small motors.

i want to keep a Carb and keep it simple!

You will need an oil pan and oil pump FOR THE COURIER. Its a front mounted pump and I believe the only one that had the front was the courier. I heard some year pintos had a front mount but I was never able to find one.
They have plenty of parts for a 2.3.. Or if you search, the 2.3turbo thats out there.
The 2.3 Im plannin to drop in has a header, cam, adjustable cam gear, I can't remember what else haha. My dad built it about 15 years ago and I haven't asked him all the specs since I still need to tear it down and replace all the gaskets since its been sitting since 01.
I'm not sure about the manual, but I know the engine and auto trans are either longer, or shorter than the mazda engine and trans.
I cant remember since it's been over a year since I've been able to work on that one.
The motor mounts, frame and engine block are completely different than the ones for the mazda.
Easiest way is to cut off the mazda ones and fab up a set. Using a 'universal' style motor mount (basically looks like a 4 link bushing end)
The trans crossmember is different too, but those are easy to make.
OH! I just remembered, the splines on the driveshaft are different, atleast they were for both of the 2.3 trans I tried to mate it up to.
If you were lucky enough to find an engine/trans out of a courier, a lot of this would be a lot easier haha. Hell you could just roll the whole 2.3 courier frame under yours haha.
Starter is on the opposite side on the 2.3 too.
I think thats most of what I can remember. Anymore ?'s let me know
Also, check out
Lots of courier info as well as mazda info

Since you're in tx you should be able to locate some through a salvage yard search.

Courier ended in 82. 79-82 is the range you'd want to hunt for.

well im gunna just hold onto this motor for now due to baby otw there wont be much extra cash flow for a while so,
im going to throw the weber on and a header on this motor and have the head redone at the local speed shop.,.. any things extra i should ask of the speed shop? things they can do to the head to maybe run better.,or keep down the tick,,>
after the carb&header order i have 450ishh i can spend on head work,,,, Valves? Cam? Springs? anuthin ?? port match ?
Better just to buy a new head??
local speed shop re does these heads for 150, base rebuild then up from there...

Also any input on intake manifold? any other posible options or anythin?

Just found a b2000 se-5 that was wrecked in the front. Dunno if the engine still works but it could be used for parts. Owner wanted $150 for the whole truck
