I just went outside and looked at the rear frame there is no way I will ever be able to mod it without changing every single thing I have done, to get really wide wheels installed.

So it looks like in the future after I've driven the truck enough to get the bugs out I might can either send the rear wheels out to be widened about an inch, and maybe some fender flares would be my best bet.

Since we are on the topic here is the pic's from last year when I started with the rear end. Also, that little hole where the truck is sitting in the pic is where I have worked on it for over a year now.
Man, talk about cramped.

Out with the old...

Here is a great article about the different type's of Ford 9" differentials.

Also, you can buy a dvd on how to install/setup a 9" from Summit Racing, if you find one at the local junkyard, or Ebay.

Here is a pic of the Detroit Locker with the 5:29 gears that came with the rear end. I swapped it out for a Trutrac differential, and 3:50 gears which should be better with the Tremec TKO 600 that is in the truck now.

Made a steel insert today, for the gas cap to keep the inside walls smooth.

hey man forgive my ignorance im new to minitruckin how do you get the lower part of the rear body [licsence plate area] to b flush like that?
mtrain   +1y
Lots of welding, then grinding with different disc's.

Then covering with body filler. Lots of work.

This week we had a bit of rain here so I was unable to get any body work done.

Today as I was sitting at my computer relaxing, my wife would run by every few minutes saying, "its not raining"..........B*tch.............

What do you guys think about the lip around the gas cap. Leave it alone, or try to cut it flush? Cutting it will be dicey, but I think I could do it with a cutoff wheel, and my Dremmel tool.

At this point I would say leave it. If you grind/cut it off will you be able to get the seam between the sheet metal (body filler) and the gas cap to be perfectly round? Will it look OK to just have a cut off edge? What about rust issues? Will it be more of a long term modification the way it is or after you cut it?

you get whats called a roll pan and weld it in. and it makes the whole lower part of the bed smooth
