Better to hear it than not. I have mine adjusted to apec and hear the also. Well I used to hear them. After using my new oil, the noise is just about gone. Still there slightly which is good though. You want to hear them a little. If you don't, that means the valves are not closing all the way.

Here is the oil I bought.

Good deal.

Okay guys time for an update... So I recently realized (post weber) that I have to get my truck emissions tested. Needless to say I want too happy. So I had a choice: Do I "go in" and put the old nasty carb back on or just try and make due with the weber... I decided on the more realistic option and this came about...

But underneath...

I'm in hopes that I'll at least pass the visual inspection now. Does anyone know of anything else I should do tuning wise that will help me pass? From what I hear if I pass the visual the "sniffer" isn't very strict.

Thanks as always

Fred

Hey! So you got them both the fit under the hood (weber and stock air cleaner housing). Did you make a plate for it, or is it just chillin there? As far as smog goes, I think two working cats, and a conservative carb tune would probably pass. Do you know what procedures they use in your state for a smog test? I haven't got a factory service manual yet, but I'd like to know what voltage the oxygen sensor shows on a warm engine with a stock carb at idle, and 3000 rpm. That could also give you some hints as to what type of tune you have. I know they are expensive, but a wideband o2 can tell you a whole lot about your carb tune. I'm going to have to research this a bit more, and maybe find a cheap wideband o2 kit somewhere. Other than that, keeping an eye on your spark plugs can give you a general idea of how the truck is tuned as well. You are looking for a light tan/beige coloring to the plugs. If they are dark grey or black, you are usually running too rich.

here is a link to a colorado test page:

on the report page, you will see

HC: fuel has allot of carbon in it, and if not burned hot and completely, it comes out in the form of black smoke (i.e. black plugs)
There is also
CO: Carbon monoxide. I think, but I can't remember, if you are running too lean, or your timing is too far advanced, you will produce more CO, and/or possibly NOX (nitrous oxide) emissions.

I don't know if this helps or just makes things more confusing for you. Hopefully it helps!

Thanks for the info! And I originally tried to cut the bottom of the air cleaner to fit the weber but that didn't go so well so I cut it to fit inside the bottom plate of the weber air cleaner. It's a close fit but it does close. I don't think the three tubes are functional but at least it looks right. I'll keep ya posted on results and thanx again
