Hey! So you got them both the fit under the hood (weber and stock air cleaner housing). Did you make a plate for it, or is it just chillin there? As far as smog goes, I think two working cats, and a conservative carb tune would probably pass. Do you know what procedures they use in your state for a smog test? I haven't got a factory service manual yet, but I'd like to know what voltage the oxygen sensor shows on a warm engine with a stock carb at idle, and 3000 rpm. That could also give you some hints as to what type of tune you have. I know they are expensive, but a wideband o2 can tell you a whole lot about your carb tune. I'm going to have to research this a bit more, and maybe find a cheap wideband o2 kit somewhere. Other than that, keeping an eye on your spark plugs can give you a general idea of how the truck is tuned as well. You are looking for a light tan/beige coloring to the plugs. If they are dark grey or black, you are usually running too rich.
here is a link to a colorado test page:
on the report page, you will see
HC: fuel has allot of carbon in it, and if not burned hot and completely, it comes out in the form of black smoke (i.e. black plugs)
There is also
CO: Carbon monoxide. I think, but I can't remember, if you are running too lean, or your timing is too far advanced, you will produce more CO, and/or possibly NOX (nitrous oxide) emissions.
I don't know if this helps or just makes things more confusing for you. Hopefully it helps!
