Sadly, hardly any progress today. With a huge mishap yesterday evening and this morning setting us back...

Pretty much all we did today was remove my trans, bolt his trans to the FE3, mark and drill the hole for the VR sensor, drilled and tapped a mounting hole and sized some bushings to keep the air gap between the sensor and tone ring.

Swapped to the Mazda F2 oil pan for extra ground clearance.

It was too windy and cold for us to paint the body today. Ticked me off. It really did. I even kicked some puppies.

Didn't get a chance to go to the junkyard for parts that broke.

For some reason this transmission is totally different than what I'm used to. The external case is different. And the bolt holes for the engine to trans side gussets are different. It looks like it will use the KIA side gussets rather than the Mazda ones, which is strange and sucks because now I have to go find a set of the side plates for a Kia. Perhaps I'll post a pic of the differences later.

Really sucks. I wanted to get a lot more done this weekend than we did. I won't have any help for a couple weeks. It helps to have 2 people to install an engine in a freshly painted bay...

SD, I see several Kias in one of my local yards. They move them through pretty fast but it's seems like there is always a few. Let me know if you need me to snag anything for you.

If anybody else needs any Kia goodies, let me know.

IDK about swapping the kia motor in.., but I do know that those support brackets from trans to motor, will not line up, unless you leave them loose from the side of the motor. Just be sure to remember to tighten everything up, after you get it stabbed.

According to other posts I have seen, the kia is supposed to bolt right up to a mazda B2200 tranny.

Oh, and here in Texas, we do not kick puppies!! But I have heard of punching doggies!

Yeah. The bolt pattern on the lower holes where it bolts to the gussets are physically different from other B2200 trannies. Mazda manual trannies have one bolt from the front into the trans, and another bolt in from the side going into the trans. This one both of the bolts go in from the front. Similar to the way the Kia engine bolts tot he Kia trans.

It physically bolts up just fine to the Mazda trans. Just the lower 4 bolts where the gussets bolt up are different on this particular trans. Photo's will help when I get a chance to compare. But I'm sure either the Kia side gussets or maybe B2200 automatic side gussets will work.

Normally I take the kia side gussets off and use Mazda side gussets and it works fine. I've never done a 92 B2200...And this trans is slightly different that the previous years.

Progress! Went to the junkyard early this morning. Found an almost new oil cooler/filter housing with brand new o-rings. And found that the Kia Sportage Automatic engine to tranny side gussets and Kia Sportage Manual lower flywheel dust shield is what I needed for this particular tranny in the 92 Mazda's...Odd beast indeed. Normally I just use Mazda F2 or FE engine side gussets and dust shield. Oh well.

Engine went in with no issues. Its hooked up and ready to drive when I get a fuel pump and install the Rad.

Paint...Is kicking my butt. My paint gun took a dump. Fluid needle packing blew out sometime as I was spraying the other day...And it left all kinds of irregular spray patterns and dry spots everywhere. Damn DeVilbiss. Ordered up base and clear Iwata Supernova's and a cheaper Iwata as backup and primer and junk. I might break out my DeVilbiss primer gun, swap the caps and finish up the base.

Fuel pump should be here Monday. Gotta plumb that in, run wires to it and the truck should be able to drive.

Engine in and mostly hooked up.

Hood and fender as it sits with horrible spray patterns on it. Its got HEAVY metallic in it, so the spray has to be set up pretty exact...It was until my gun exploded...

Engine bay is done.

All that's left to get it running and driving is the rad fan and fuel pump I'm waiting on.

Then we just have to finish the paint. I'd like to get that done this week, but it depends on weather and time available.

Power steering; done
Engine/cab wiring; done, lacking fuel pump
Cooling system; Done, lacking rad fan
Fluids; Filled but not bled yet.

Awaiting test drive to make sure everything is smooth.

Stepping back to look at it, I REALLY wish I had thought to take those 10 wires on the passenger wheel well that go from the fuse box to the firewall and route them down and over with the main harness that runs down near the passenger brake line. Would have looked A LOT cleaner. Didn't even cross my mind as I was making the harness. I might change it...It'd be a bit of work..But it would look a lot better.

Front just tacked in place. I am REALLY tempted to paint the grille and bumper flat black...I think it would look good with some contrast in the front. Maybe he'll let me?
