one tail light out..

i've heard its a common problem, but my passenger tail light is out. i replaced the bulb. the brake light works, just not the tail light.. any ideas?

What do you mean the brake light works just not the tail light? lol I'm thinking those are the same thing, do you have a picture?

I reread the title are you saying the running light/parking light is out but when you put on the brakes the brake light lights up?

Hahahaha sorry yea I ment the tail light won't light up when the lights are on.. but the brake light works.. lol

Glad you almost got your brakes fixed, I read it in your other thread. Just for good measure I would take the bulb out of your working tail light and put it in just in case you picked up a bad bulb(I've seen it happen).

Tracing a bad wire isn't fun lol I would start by tracing that wire to see if you notice any where it could be damaged. All it takes is for it to get to close to exhaust to cause some wiring head aches.

And yea I'm dreadin it alreAdy! I was hopin it could just be a corroded solder or sumthin! Lol. Or Lind of a wiggle this and pull on that type of fix. Haha

Still haven't had a chance tO put on the banner.. Been to busy on the brakes but I will be getting it on there asap.

Check the socket - if the terminals are croded (sp?) it will not allow it to light properly. Another way to check if the "new" bulb is good/bad is to put it in the oposite (left light) and see if it works. make sure there's no gunk in the socket of the effected socket and put some electrical grease in and put your bulb in to see if it works . If that don't work then you may have a bad connection .. Have you or prev owner taken the bed off and on anytime recently? How long has this gone on ?

uhmm. it just started like the day before i posted. lol and yea not the previous, but the one before that i guess switched it to the long bed..

yes like stated, start with swapping the bulb out of the other side (check it and make sure its working perfect in that side first). if still no parking lamp (thats what you are not getting, correct?), then check the wires themselves, if they seem ok after a quick look, then pull apart the actual connection plug, take a peek in there see how ugly it looks, stick some di-electric grease in there (it keeps water out, keeps the contacts from corroding and creating a bad connection), and then plug it back in. check your lights again. if still no lights, connection and reinsert a couple times. if thats not the issue then follow the tail light harness under the truck a bit, see if there is any noticeable damage. like stated, if the box has been pulled, look for anywhere the harness might have been or is pinched. also look for splices, and repairs.

these are the most common issues when it comes to the tail light harness. i just had an issue with my daily where my blinker was being goofy on the driverside, when i hit the brakes with the turn signal on, it would blink fast, but the stop lamp and reverse light were kind of blinking (not full light), instead of the turn signal. i pulled the light bulb, and it was fine, pulled apart the connector and bent in the connectors a touch and reinserted. good to go.

Hey man, thanks for the insight.. i just went up underneath it. they are all hacked up on both sides, i unplugged the hole harness and plugged it on the drivers side and it workd fine, so no bulb problems.. while under neath i noticed why my tag lights dont work, there is no wires even connected to it.. lol ill have to go further into it.. how bad would it be to splice the tail/brake lights into the drivers side, but keep the reverse and blinker connected? lol just a though
