well unwrap things first, and see how bad stuff is... if stuff is soldered and done correctly then you should be able to leave it. anything that has been hacked with before is suspect though
just cut in a lil bit further back from where things were last screwed with and redo it to the respective spots. you can tell where the harness is 'factory' wrapped, so cut an inch or 2 past (or before, into good 'factory' harness) the last 'failed' splice point/bad connection and redo it. make sure you use solder and a soldering iron or torch (fire extinguisher ready!)... make the connection solid, and protect it with some shrink tube and/or electrical tape.
