so heres whats goin on. on my way to work truck ran fine, when i got off work and went to start it it wouldnt start (no spark) so i had a buddy give me a jump start because my last problem was a fried optima redtop. however after the jump start it fired right up but stuttered all the way to the freeway once on the freeway ran fine unless i put the clutch in then it would die but fire back up when i pop start. would die at stop light unless i gave it enough gas to keep my rpms up. anybody have any idea what thats all about???

91 b2600i its draining amps with the neg cable disconnected and truck off but the battery tested good

Sounds like a weak battery and a bad alternator. Did you try checking the voltage across the battery posts while an assistant revs the engine in neutral?

I miss my mazdatruckin.com it's like an addiction gone bad

my brother in-laws dad took the battery down today to the place he got it from (les schuab) and he said they tested the hell out of it and couldnt find anything wrong with it. and it tested just over 12volts off and 14.4v running. so one thing i notice is when attatching the cables i got a little spark so i tested between the neg cable and neg post and got just under 12v and like 1 or 2 volts between the pos terminal and neg cable should that be happening??? (side note: battery doesnt go dead sitting)

Oops I didnt answer your question but I don't think we tested while reving, we did test it with the fan and headlights on and it did fine. Plus on another note the alternator was rebuilt a few months back due to a bad regulator from playing in the mud

so upon further investigation im not sure if its electrical, it started to sputter so i pulled a plug wire, still ran but got a different kind of sputter. while sputtering i checked the battery and coil both of which tested like they should but still had the sputter. also tested battery while reving engine and the voltage stayed within .01. also i pulled the battery cables one at a time to rule out alternator (sputtering the whole time) and it stayed running. i dont believe it to be a fuel issue due to the fact that reving it doesnt stop it it just sputters at a higher rpm. however the sputter comes and goes and i cant cause it to do it with anything ive tried. However i havent had an issue starting it, it fires right up. WTF is going on with this thing???

Just a thought, not definitive, but check for a wire jumping.

I had this happen to me, somewhat of the same issue, although it wouldn't completely die during low RPMs.

Turned out I had a wire that looked fine, but arced just barely enough to see (sometimes you couldn't see it).

It plagued me for hours and I about lost my sanity.

like a electrical wire or a plug wire? i know i have a plug wire that likes to arc but u can hear the difference between the stutter and a miss, theres a noticable difference in the sound between the two

so one of the millwrights at work said he had a problem with his truck stuttering and it turned out to be his crank angle sensor, which made me wonder if it could be my hall effect sensor so i got to thinking about it and realized it sounds like the same stutter i get when i go play in big puddles when i splash water on my distributor. does anyone know if the symptoms would point to a bad hall effect sensor or condensation in the distributor?
