3k rpm at cold start.. help

Hey guys. Thus is my first b. I bought this thing with a blown motor. My buddies machine shop rebuilt it for me. It runs pretty good. The only issue I have is that it cold start it wants to idle at like 3k. I pop the throttle n it idles down to 2k n eventually makes its way bk up to 3k. I can keep popping the throttle to bring it down to 2k but I have to keep doing this till it warms up n goes to normal idle. This can't b good for the rings.
We eliminated the emittions n I thought that might b the issue but when people run webbers they eliminate them n don't have this problem.

You should start putting the truck you have and engine that's in it, makes it a little easier to start with. Was the carb overhauled? Sounds like the high idle cam is set a little high.

Are you saying you are running a Weber carb or are you using the stock carb?

Oh yea. I completely forgot. Lol. My bad. It's a 92 b22. I'm using the stock carb and we never rebuilt it. I didn't know about a high idle cam. How can I check that?

Yeah, by "cam" he doesn't mean camshaft. Cam is just a word for a little piece of metal that an idle adjustment screw rests against. Carbuerated motors will run at a higher idle, if everything is set right, when you first set the choke - this is done by pressing the gas pedal one time all the way to the floor and releasing. Then you start the truck, usually no gas but sometimes you gotta give it a squirt. When it starts it'll idle fast, as it warms up the choke starts opening but it will still idle fast until you step on the gas to reset the idle cam. There are adjustments to control how high RPM the truck will idle when cold (fast idle) and normal, and also sometimes an additional adjustment to kick the idle a little higher when the A/C compressor kicks in.

I'll post a pic of the high idle screw on the carb as soon as I get home .. (can't post from cell..ugh) .. I have a carb out.. i'll show you

AE show us the pic of that screw, also if you have a carb out show us the idle cam and such, also the air/fuel siloniod. Sorry for the high jack.
