Hey Truckinfavis,

I've got 4 of those bongo engines and one FE3 engine. My daily driver has the exact engine that you have a pic of:

I'm running Megasquirt on it and it works fantastic.

My other truck is a project that I'm still working on but I have a bongo engine with the 929 manifold:

This one is running a Mazda 626 ECM conversion which was developed by my friend Madlowmazda Jim.
My two other Bongo engines are not yet in trucks but I have one more E2000/Bongo manifold and I've got three carbureted manifolds imported from Finland that will allow the use of a Weber on one of these 12v engines...that will be in my next project.

And heres a pic of the FE3 I'm building for yet another future project:

I see you live in Marysville. If you're ever up in Bellingham, give me a shout and swing by my shop!

Man I would love to. Thanks for the invite. I would love to just get a little more out of the b2200 with out a crap load of mods. The 12 valve and carb should give me a little more than the 89hp stock. Hey I'll pm you

By the way guy, that engine bay looks sweet!!! How dose 12v compare to the 8v on spped and performance? I would love for my truck to break the 100mph at least one in its life....lol But real looking for better performance while keeping the fuel mpg up. I get 32 hwy.and crap in city becouse I punch the living crap out of the pedal. I wen't from Marysville to Medford, Or. two tanks of gas there and back 498 miles.

Hey Truckin, I've got a Bongo as well. Mine was already tuned with MS and installed so I can't help ya much there. I need to hook mine up to a PC one of these days and check the tuning as it came from Canada and has a floating idle during the summer heat...no problem during winter. (Any tips Orange?)

As for power, I honestly can't say there is that much more than the stock engine. For one you're going from a 2.2 to a 1.8, so there's some torque loss right there. If you're going to just swap a Bongo head onto a 2.2 you might gain some. Xulf, the one that did the carbed Bongo said he gained some speed. If you want speed, don't go Bongo imo. Go Kia, that's probably the best value. If I could do it again I'd either go that route or a 302, but my truck is my only daily so I needed to do the swap quick. Got it done in 7 days, Sat-Sat.

Thanks for the input there 1hotdog, I was realy wondering about power gain, so 1.8 bongo not the way to go well I guess I will do some more searching....

I was thinking about a 240zx or an s2000 swap but all the electronics would have to come too like the instrument cluster too for speedo and tach. I think you would need the whole car. I guess I need to find a total some place. It's going to be $$$$$$

Maybe I will just refresh my motor one more time, and live with the 89hp It just sucks that this truck dosen't have enough power to get out of its own way..lol

My true Bongo engine is a 2.0. The first one of these engines I ever saw was the 1.8 that I found for Madlowmazda about 6 or 7 years ago. I think that we've kind of dubbed these engines Bongos but they are also found in the Mazda E1800 van ( 1.8 ) , Mazda E2000 van ( 2.0 ), Japanese Mazda 929, New Zealand B2200 (I believe 1996 and up) and I'm sure there are others.

The "bongo" engine that I built with the 929 manifold and the red valve cover is actually a 2.2 out of a 626 with the cam and cam backing plate replaced with one from a Bongo engine so that the distributor and thermostat housing are in the front.

I think that my dailys 2.0 Bongo with MS is way faster then it was with the old 2.0 8 valve engine with a Weber but I dont think I'll be winning any races with any of them.

There are actually about 4 of these engines on Ebay right now...the most I've seen. Search Mazda fe engine. I've only ever seen 2 929 manifolds and I've owned them both but sold one of them to Madlowmazda. I'd sure take another if any of you guys see one anywhere and dont need it for yourselves, I'd be interested.
