looking to replace my motor mounts on my 89 2600 4x4, A: is it a pretty tricky job? i asked my brother whos done a good amount of car work and said "your messing with fire" B: does anyone have/know of a thread that has pictures and step by step process? my manual doesn't even mention a word about them! but they seem really self explanatory

I just replaced my motor mounts on my '88 B2200 within the last 6 months, wasn't too tough. Of course your engine is different.

My motor mounts were both broken in two, got replacements from O'Reilly within 2 days. Both had one threaded stud on each end, rubber in the middle, plus new nuts.

I basically got a block of wood and put that on the jack, and loosened the 4 nuts on the old mounts, jacked up the engine about 1.5 inch, and wiggled the old ones out and new ones in.

I also put paint marks on the old ones so I'd know for sure which way was "up". Also, if any wires are without slack, label and disconnect those before jacking up the engine so you don't stress/break them.

Easy enough to do as Cusser said... I'd suggest getting the OEM mounts from Mazda. The aftermarket mounts are "stiffer" and you will notice a slight shake at idle. It's not a big deal but I wish I knew what I know now, I would have used the OEM parts because sometimes I think something is wrong with the engine at stop lights.

My symptom before the changeover was some noise on deceleration (that assumes that B-trucks actually have some acceleration !!!!).

My mounts were the originals, both in two pieces from age/heat. The aftermarket ones I got were Anchor; the Mazda dealer is like 20 miles away.

Are these ok? there the only ones i can find that are single bolts on both sides

Tose should work just fine, I've had aftermarket mounts in mine for about 5 years. Broke the originals in half doing a jump off road :/ but as cusser said its a easy job. I remember it taking me sub 30 min to complete (on a 92 b2200). Keep your receipt just in case and compare the new with the old when you get one out.

Good luck

I bought some about a year ago from Rock Auto. The spacing between the bolt and that short little alignment pin was about a 1/4" off. So the mounting brackets would not have sat flat/flush on the mount. I ended up returning them. I think ABE or somebody else had the same problem with them supplied by RA. So look close to make sure whatever ones your buy fit right. If not, find some that do.

I've got some mounting brackets around here somewhere. I will try to get that dimension for you, then you can measure and compare at them autoparts store instead of finding out after you have pulled the old ones.

quick question do my mounts really need to be replaced? at idle and when i twist the throttle fast and hard the mount (driver side) moves up about 1-1.5 inches, is that very bad? the other side hardly moves at all but the motor is twisting to the passenger side causing the driver side to move...in other words its lifting up on one side (drivers) and pushing down on the other (passenger). what do you think? the replacement is $100 and im about to go on a weekend camping trip next week and only have about $200 cash...plus i might need new brake pads (+$50)

No, that is not good. A bad motor mount can lead to other issues which could cost even more. Get the mount(s) fixed.
