The cam pulley needs to be removed and AT LEAST a new gasket put behind that front housing if its not cracked.

So I removed the cam gear, and forgot to mark it because I thought the cam gear was keyed, but theres 3 spots that there cam gear could go kn. How do I set timing now since the cam could possibly go several different ways or does it matter?

Thanks guys So I think I set timing right, adjusted valves to .012, put it all together and truck started up right away but after the truck warmed it would die when I came to a stop, and would not idle. The only way it would drive is to floor the gas and keep RPMs very high.

Checked for vacum leaks and couldnt find anything, I might go back and recheck timing

Did it drive OK before it was warmed up? And was only worse after say 5 to 10 minutes? If so, sounds like a choke issue. Is the choke heater wire plugged into the rear of the alternator?

Yes it drove fine for first 5 minutes or so, today as well it started up and idled great for also about 5 minutes, but once it warms up a bit it won't idle at all. It will start back up fine but wont idle unless I hold gas down and keep RPMS high.

I'll check that because I was hammering on the alternator to install fan belt.

Okay truck runs fine when choke is on, once choke comes off truck will not idle, possible bad ignition timing?
