used Momo JDM Efini FD rx7 steering wheel!

thread post photo

i bid on this on ebay when i was drinking and didnt realize i was bidding on it until 5 days later. got this thing for a steal!

thread post photo

tried to install it in the truck, and it doesnt fit. i figured this would happen, but with a custom build, theres always a way!

so i disassembled both the stock wheel and the efini wheel to see why it wouldnt mount up, and i figured out a way to make it work without having to buy a FD steering column, so all hope is not lost!

have more goodies on the way! will update as they arrive!

"i bid on this on ebay when i was drinking and didnt realize i was bidding on it until 5 days later."

I did that one time, and ended up married, but thats another story.

What year RX7 did that fit? I've got to get a decent steering wheel for mine one day.

Its off of a 93+ fd rx7. So far all of the wheels that i have tried from first gen rx7s all the way to 3rd get rx7s have the same splines but some have different lengths of the hub part. They all fit but some will need slight machining!

alright, heres some long due updates...

first off i got my new Walbro 255lph inline fuel pump and fittings...

and then since i am totally set on getting this thing running as fast as possible and i have good info on everything i need for start up, i have been spending time figuring out wiring and buying stuff for the big day.

so i figured i need to get my intake manifold all squared away since i am running an fd upper on an s5 lower. so i need to port match the runners to use the adapter plate to pull this off.

heres the upper and lower manifolds seperated..

thread post photo

upper with the adapter plate...

this shows the material that needs to be removed so airflow is smooth....

now just gotta get out the dremel and get it smoothed out and cleaned up and get longer bolts and this will be one thing marked off the list...

thread post photo

so i started working on body dropping the bed to get all of my body lines matched up again...

heres the back cut out and seeing the concrete a bit closer

thread post photo

sure wish my 4 link went frontwards. would make everything sooo much easier.

thread post photo

the front was a bitch!

all the way down. now to section some out of the sheetmetal to complete the 5 1/2" bodydrop...

thread post photo

little by little sectioning this down...

thread post photo

closer

thread post photo

there we go...

thread post photo

well another big deal item came in. this thing is hi-tech. AEM UEGO digital wideband.

thread post photo

pretty sure im going to have the whole aem catalog on this truck once it is done...

thread post photo

thread post photo

kit comes with different faceplates and bezels and is just extremely high quality. AEM is the shit!

so since i have almost everything i need to start getting everything done for fuel concerns, i decided it was time to actually mount the fuel cell and get everything wired up and situated, so i mocked up where i want it and started figuring out how i was going to mount it...

thread post photo

playing around with ideas for mounting. i want to make sure that this tank is removable for just cuz, and also for when i get the frame and everything painted and such... so needless to say, this design wont work.

so this is what i came up with. basically this will support the bottom and then i will build a cradle for the tank.

thread post photo

tacked up and measuring up the cross bars...

all welded up and bolted up. now just have to build the cradle and get it all welded up snug. then run lines and wire up the fuel pump and all that fun jazz.

so i have been talking to a few companies about wiring this truck up and all the sensors and shit i need, so i should have a harness here within a month im hoping. then its just figuring out vacuum lines and such and then i can turn it over and see if the engine needs rebuilt now or if i can drive it with this engine until final teardown.

seems like im soo close, but i tell u it still seems so far. shits so expensive. i want to just clean out my savings and finish this thing, but im getting older and wiser and realize that this truck is the least of my worries right now...

getting old sucks...

Good job Dr. J.

That Walbro pump is a great choice as I am running one to move the oil from the turbo's back to the pan.

How are you going to fill your gas tank. That kinda gave me a few sleepless nights trying to figure that one out.

I found an outlet for the fuel cell from Speedway Motors that came in a 45 deg angle. I was going to mount a fuel door on the bed lid, but ended up doing it out the tailgate.
mymmeryloss   +1y
I will be running a gas door in the bed(probably a rx7 fuel door lol) and running a fill neck to the fuel cell...

Goddamn u keep reminding me of all the small shit i still have to do...

And whats up with the dr j reference ?
jenko   +1y
I wondered that, he called me Dr J as well at some point
Must be our remarkable resemblance to Julius Erving...

You are putting a lot of work on this thing man, good job!

I know what you mean when you say it sucks being a responsible adult. Having to provide for a family definitely puts the brakes on spending all your money on toys but it is all worth it, raising a child is the most rewarding thing ever!
