Technically, Toyotas don't have a harmonic balancer. Its just a pulley.

its called a crank pulley by toyota, but "technically" since it is not a solid piece, it is a vibration damper( fuck ). there's a rubber connection between the two pieces of metal, kinda like a motor mount.

i always thought it was a harmonic balancer too. doesnt every engine produce a vibration as it fires? they all need to be balanced dont they?

Nope, not all engines have a balacer. For example sbc350 and sbc400 same motors right?? no, the easy way to tell the difference is to look and see if one has a balancer or not. The 400sbc does not have a harmonic balancer, its internally balanced. You can have a motor setup to be balanced on the crank alone but its like the Heavan/ Hell argument, whats right and whats wrong.

I've never seen one with rubber. Mine is all metal, or it wouldn't have worked to powdercoat it. But maybe its a difference between the 20R/early 22R and late 22R.
