Custom dash, where to start??

i just ripped out my interior, theres alot more room with out that big ass dash in place.. what i was wonderin is, if i were to make a custom dash, what kind of materials would i use and where would i start?? wood, fiberglass?? what?? if anyone has any pics that would be awesome..
