my viair 280c does that, only it will compress sometimes and othertimes it just runs and doesnt compress anything. its 3 years old though and ran everday of its life. haha...

did you ever get the issue figured out? i hear there is a little paddle valve in there and sometimes it gets stuck open wich let the air pass through and not compress at all.
