Or more correctly what comprises a compact (mini) pickup. To me a 1st gen S10, Chevy LUV, Toyota Hilux, Datsun bulletside, etc are true mini trucks. But what are the requirements to be classified as a mini? Colorados and Tacos and Frontiers are midsized.
I guess I just miss the old days when minitrucks were just that mini.
What are your thoughts on this?

i think the new tacos(05), new frontiers(0?), colorados and 95+ dakotas are all midsize. previous to that, they are minis to me.

^^^ yeah thats how i see it. some will argue that the 1st gen s-10's are midsizes and other will say their minis but anymore the new truck that are coming out are far from mini. like that taco that sadistic did, very nice truck...but i wouldnt classify it as being a mini because of its size.

my first gen is bout the same size as my yota. and the second gens use basically the same frame, body is just a little wider.

But what makes us think of one a compact pickup and the other a midsize.? Is wheelbase? Body dimensions? I was looking at pics of old school trucks and thumbing the yota LUV article in MT and it got me to thinking about a modern minitruck.
I wouldl ike to see one. I know other people who have seen pics of the Mexican Chevy Tornado. And have said they would buy a compact pickup if one was available in the US.

hmm....my buddy austin has a s-10 (the first gen) and it seems bigger than the toyota std. cabs. i dont really know much about the s-10s but i always thought the first gens were bigger then the second... maybe it looks like that cause the square bodyness. i dunno.

everytime i think of mini classification i look at its engine type (typically 4 cyl.) and wheel width and its load capacity ratings. this is kinda hard to explain. lol. back in the day our trucks were good for what 800-1000 lbs. at most with stock suspension... now the newer tacomas will hold and transport more than that. not that load capacity matters when you cut it up to make it lay but it says something about its size and beefyness. i would think that the colorado would be considered a mini, its not much bigger than the first taco's

I wish my truck was as big as an S10.

So does anyone know the wheelbase measurements on old school yota or the pre taco yotas?

My truck is 100.5". The 84-88 is 102" wheelbase, the 89-95 is 103" wheelbase. For standard cab shortbeds.
