that tech article is for the actual suicide hinges isnt it? i thnk he's asking how to use stock hinges to suicide his doors? or maybe use the stock suicide hinges out of an extended cab or something

ohh.. my bad

there is no tech on this rarely seen mod. the only one on this board who had done this is Thom.
you'll have to make a large recessed area for the hinges to mount and for the door to fold into. huge amounts of stress on that area, so make it beefy.

just dont.
ive been working on mine for a month and its still not completed but heres a quick run down.

what you need:
2 doors and two spare
some 5mm angle bar (prob over kill but my local only had 3mm or 5mm)
5mm flat bar, or flat stock as it may be called.
4 driver hinges
4 passenger hinges.

what to do:
set the door up on its factory location, gap it up and make sure it sits right.

swing the door open and cut out the back of the door jam on the cab and cut round inside till prretty much the back. please remove all interior and seat belts while doing this.

take the doors off

cut the spare passenger doors hinge side off and set it on the back on the driver door. you will need a picking hammer to get the lines to match probably.

keep the standard hinges on and remount the door

get inside (i did mine with no rear wall so acess was easier) and mount he flat bar inside the pillar horizontally, i mounted mine on to of the seat belt mount becuase i didnt want to move it.

get the angle out and place it where it needs to go and mark on the angle where the bolts need to go

go over to the drill press and drill out the holes. think its a 8-9mm bit for toyotas.

come back and weld the angle in, bolt the door on, unbolt the factory side and swing it, please hold it while you do this as it may move. check how it swings, at this point u will probably have to increase your back door gap by 5mm, so do that and see how it swings.

ok thats all good weld it in and grab some 3mm flat stock and tie the angle back in to the factory pillar.

then gran your spare doors again and cut the striker plates out, weld the passenger one on to the driver door on the previous factory hinge spot, again you will need a picking hammer and small filler plates.

cut the striker latch hook things (cant remember thier name) off the old pillar section and now weld them in to the A pillar, you will have to mount the door again to see where it all goes.

do the same on both doors, weld up the original bolt holes on the a pillar and then resheet the b pillar and make a new jam, im up to that stage.

here are all the pics i have, im keeping it to a minimul because here in australia people always talk of it but dont do it, i think im one of a handful of people thats done it locally and i dont want to post 1million pics and have everyone ripping the way i did it off and making out as if thier some genius

oh and severed 701 also did this, u can maybe contact him on street source.

also sorry about the metric sizes, we use metric in aus and imperial confuses me greatly
kdcgrohl   +1y

me too, and i'm from the us. wish they'd taught me metric in school, makes more sense to me.

anyway, good job thom. i've only seen one yota in the states with stock hinge suicides, just not much known of it around here...
tommy b   +1y
yeah cheers
i dont know of any other trucks with stock hinge either, well one but its sitting at the side of this guys house last time i saw it doing very little.

tommorow i hope to weld the final catch in and sheet the jamb,
i was supposed to do it today but my best mate dropped by and we ended up at the beach swimming and checking out the girls.

i know what you mean about metric vs imperial, i pulled a silvia driveline from a friends car, he had no tools except a cheap tool kit with all the sockets in imperial i was like ahh chuck me a 19mm socket....dam had to try a load that looked like it till it fit.

the next part ill update is getting the locks and handels to work,.....as soon as i do it
tommy b   +1y
ok got the interior handles to work.
umm if anyone interested just look at my thread in underconstuction.
basically a shortened rod and flipped handel.
next is getting the interior lock to work.
