I'm working on a fiberglass center console and going to attempt another fiberglass project and am looking for some guidance.
Project 1 Center Console
I've got some MDF side frames built with a flat section in the front that is larger than the base. I have a cutout in the MDF for some gauges. I streched fleece stapled from the bottom over the top and it kinda gets bigger as it goes from bottom to top. The back curves up and has a 12" MDF ring facing the windshield. I'm laying down resin on the fleece and putting in fiberglass chop mat and then resin again. I hadn't got far enough to sand and bondo yet.
The actual question is about molding something into it. I have a skull I bought and I want to mold it into the console. I figured I could cut the material and put it in and brace it from the back side and then put resin over it and mold it in but not sure how that would look or how it would turn out and I have a lot of hours in the console.
I also thought I could cover the skull in foil. And make a resin mold of the front of it and mold that into the top but not sure how well it would take the shape.
Project 2 Headliner
I want to pull the headliner frame down out of the truck and pull the foam and material off of it. I was wondering if it would be possible to either staple some fleece to the back side and pull it tight or hot glue it to the back side and then lay glass and chop mat on top of the headliner. I know the stock has the foam that supports the liner. Would I need foam and then strech the fleece over the foam?
What about the holes for the visors and ect. Should I try to drill the glass once its together if I do it? Put the screw through the hole drilled?
I'm fishing for ideas on the headliner for sure. Any products or recommendations are greatly appreciated.
