I painted a small roadster in my driveway. I just got some light gauge 1/2"x1/2" metal and tacked a frame together, bought a roll of plastic from the autobody store and duct taped it up. Be sure to use a respirator though. I wasn't really thinking about the overspray, I just didnt want leaves, dust, bugs and bird shit on the paint.

You're brave for shooting out in the open (driveway). Good luck... Definately check with neighbors first. Cause if they complain you could be paying for alot of costly fines and paint repair like peps allready mentioned. Painting and clear coating is extremely illegal in all 50 states. I'd check around just FYI, for rental paint booths, might be cheaper then $1k+ fines and repainting other people's houses and cars.
But if going to do it, ya I'd do it early in the morning, tarp as much as you can, watch the wind, hose everything down as much as possible to keep dry crap from flying, and try to do it in early spring or late fall for that is the time frame bugs are the least likely to swarm and stick in your paint job!!! Keep tweezers handy to pick em out!!! Oh and like others mentioned early morning is the best time...

dont you love it when a bug lands in your primer and he doesnt stay in one spot....no he decides to make a little trek all the way across your hood and there is nothing that you can do... i'll spray primer and sealer outside but never paint. too much trash gets into it.

Ya maybe I will wait until I get my garage. Atleast I can tarp everything up really good then. And hide what I am doing a little bit better. Thank you for all your input though!

I don't want to be a dick, but painting in the driveway is a BAD idea. I can't think of one positive thing to say about doing that.
