Carbonfiber

Okay guys, I started my project about 2 years ago. Not knowing where I would end up on the body work and such I had no idea what to go with. So, I built a f/g hood with a decent size scoop centered in the hood. Now that I have choosen the color to paint my car I want to lay carbonfiber vinyl over the hood then clear coat over that.... My quistion is.Q:with all the concurve and convex surfaces, due to the height of the scoop, would the vinyl lay smooth and flat with not wrinkles? Would I be able to lay a supper sticky expoxy to keep the vinyl layed down for a while? could you heat the vinyl enough to level it all out and keep it secured?

So your getting a Gigantic Carbon Fiber Sticker to cover your hood then clear coating it to make it look semi- real, but yet once you open your hood people will see it very fake. Why didn't you spend all the time and money of making a 1 Off Fiberglass hood and not just buy a Carbon Fiber Hood in the first place, or at least ruin it by making it look cheap with the fake sticker.

No, basicly I'm saying I built a f/g hood that NO ONE has and that I want it to look carbon fiber by applying a vinyl decal over it... I've seen 2 show cars that have WON trophies with a set up like this... If you can find a carbon fiber hood for a 2nd gen cavalier that is QUALITY made then I will buy it...

why not get a sheet of carbon cloth big enought to cover the hood on one piece ...get biaxial so it will flex and hold the color ruff up the spray a coat of grey sealer over it..incase u streach the cloth in one spot and need to hide it.resin it in one coat using squezzges to get it flat sand lightly and clear the piss out of it...
then it is a carbon laminate hood like the gtp hoods are. i can send u some pics of this done on other projects i have made works awesome.

Thats what I would suggest too. I think the clear over vinyl will shrink and expand in the heat and eventually wrinkle and peel. Paint only sticks as good as what is under it (at least thats the rule of thumb for bodywork) so painting over vinyl held on with basically tape doesn't sound so hot.

so in this process, do I to the same events as I would when working with f/g?

guys carbon fiber tends to be rather stiff when you try to go over an edge or try to contour it around something like a scoop it does ok on a flat hood but i think you'll end up wasting your time and money if you don't have a really good handel on the proper steeps in using c/f.
It's differant from fiberglass.
C/F should be bag molded in a vacume/autoclave or you'll never get results that you would be pleased with.

what year Car

1994 2nd generation. The quistion I ask though is, will the vinyl idea work?
